ac=3 question

I've got a fortec lifetime ultra on order. just a question on ac-3 out what else do i need to get sound on pbs stations.

find a decoder for dolby that has s/pdif input. Usually most surround sound 5.1 systems have this.

another question is audio optical the same as spdif connection. thank you rainman #-o

no. optical audio is a different connection than spdif or coaxial out.

To add to that, most AV receivers have only optical inputs for Dolby Digital (aka AC3).

No it won't. I have seen (somewhere but I can't remember where... :mozilla_undecided: ) an adapter, or converter really, from optical to coaxial and vice versa.

I got a chance to look at owners manual last night says the koss has a digital coaxial in is this the same as spdif. thanks rainman #-o

yep. that should work. I know there are specific coaxial patch cords, but I've had success with a regular RCA cable from spdif to coax in.

If you are not sure what kind of input your Koss has, look at the back of the receiver. The optical input is a small black connector and usually you can see the red laser light coming out of it; the coaxial digital input looks just like a regular RCA phono jack.

thanks kat the koss have both optical and coaxial in. thanks again for all your help. now we just have to wait till sadoun get restocked on the ultra receiver and shps it. rainman
