Fortec Star Lifetime Classic NA

I bought a new Fortec Star Lifetime Classic NA from you today and was told you can update the firmware. I have visitied the www.fortec.com and there is no download. I understand you need a null modem DB9 which I have. Can you help me with a uploader/downloader updater???

Why would you update the firmware?! It is a brand new receiver and it comes preloaded with the latest manufacturer software.

Certainly we did not tell you to update the software. It is brand new and there not even an update on the Fortec Star website for the firmware. Use it as is. Any software upload to your receiver will not only through your warranty out the window, it may even damage your receiver.

I understand this thing is new. However, how come all other fortec recievers can be updated? Plus there is a RS 232 male port so it is possible. I just want the possibility to update it and not be left with a crappy reciever like the coship which you guys carried forever. Again, where can I get the updater/uploader?

This is a brand new receiver. Manufacturer has no updates yet. vantuallyif people find some bugs or if they want to add some enhanments they will release updates. That's where RS232 comes in handy.

If you look at Fortec Lifetime Ultra, originally it had some serius issues with driving the motro. They released an update to fix the bug. They also added an ability to select a frequency range you want to search when doing the blind search (instead of searching th ewhole spectrum).

I want to put in my channel list and there is no way to communicate with this thing. I have also read that Fortec has stopped all US support for their recievers.

Maybe it is possible with STBEditor for Lifetime Ultra?! Of course try at your own risk.

Weel all I can say that the sales pitch used for these units was misleading, especially since the lifetime ultra just happen to be out of stock when the big pitch for these units came, shame shame, alot of very pissed off people around the web, and 20% restocking fee to boot, and please dont give me that its a true fta bull****, they all are.

First of all, lets get things straight here. There is no HACK talk. Read the rules. The unit is designed to do Free To Air. Free to air means programming intended to be free by the program originator. If you are attempting to view subscription/scrambled programming for free, that is not what word free in FTA is meant to mean.

You can complain all you want, but I can almost asure you that you were not fooled by any tricky sales pitches from Sadoun. He sells and advertizes these unit as they are supposed to be used.

If you have any issues, compain to whom ever told/sold you the unit and advertized it as meant for illegal use.

In the meantime, keep in mind that Dish Network and Globecast and whoever else you are looking to rip off, can easily track thiefs when you expose your self so publically.

I got nothing else to say. I'll keep this thread unlocked for a little while (unless one of the other moderators wants to lock it/delete it). I'll delete it myself in a little bit

I think I'll lock this baby up. I'm a bit less tolerant of all these dorkhead hackers, or as dtsexpert so accurately calls them, "hacker wannabees". Perhaps Sadoun will want to reopen the thread and defend himself against fartika's slanderous accusations.

well, you are. You didn't get any of those quotes from here. Instead you got a brand new working Fortec, but became consumed by the RS232 port. If and when Fortec releases an update, you can use it. Warranty and software updates are still supported on the website:
