yes, you can order stock replacement (might be best, cheapest alternative) but if I was shopping for an "all in one" remote - take a look at the harmony unit. Pricey - $250 bux - it shows Fortec on the list of units it supports, not sure if it will actually do it or not...
I have complicated / various amounts of AV equipment. It would be real nice to get 1 remote to "do it all".
Just need to scrape the courage, and the dollars together to order one of these things!
If anyone has a harmony, how's it working for you, especially integrated with Fortec equipment?
This 880 with color display looks really neat:

There have been numerous posts on this general topic, however one option is to get a JP1 programmable remote, of which there are several. Radio Shack sells several, the most expensive of which is in the $30 range.
The catch is that these remotes will not have the Fortec codes built in, but if you buy (cheap), or make (cheaper) a JP1 cable, you can program in the Fortec codes yourself, which is actually better than pre-programmed codes, because you get to choose what functions go on what keys, etc.
Actually, the Ultra seems to respond to 2 different sets of codes, ie both the codes that are generated by the newer Ultra remotes, but it also responds to the codes generated by the older Fortec Lifetime remotes.
Another "catch" is that if you go to Radio Shack, the sales people have no clue which of their remotes are JP1 compatable and which aren't. The way to tell is to open up the battery compartment and look for a little 6-pin header. I use a RS 15-2116, and a 2117, which is similar. But there are also several cheaper models too. I also use a OFA 9910, but I like the key layout on the RS better.
If you are interested in the JP1 option, do a search of this forum, as there are several links telling where you can get information or buy cables, etc. To use the JP1 programs, you will need to have Excel on your computer. The Fortec codes for the old non-Ultra Lifetime are on the web, not the newer codes, but as mentioned above, the old ones work fine.
Actually, if you happen to use one of those Radio Shack 4 way A/V switches, the old codes are preferable. I had my A/V switch programmed to switch with a specific key on the old Lifetime remote, and when I got an Ultra, I switched it switch with the NEW Ultra remote, however that code seems to be real similar to one of my other remotes (a Drake code), which would result in unwanted switching of my switch, so I had to switch it back to the old non-ultra code.

I mean what are the receiver codes?
Thank you guys for responding, but the codes that I'm needing are the receiver codes like SATELLITE CODES for different manufactures of the units for instance CHAPPARAL-codes are 5056 or 5057 or a SONY box is 5072 or a RCA box is 5000 or a PRIMESTAR is 5076. I've got a couple universal remotes, but don't know the RECEIVERS codes to put in the remote to tell it to change channels. All I want this universal remote to do is change channels. If I need to do something else, I'll just go up close to the receiver and do what I need to do. One of the remotes that I've got is the DTV UNIVERSAL REMOTE, but doesn't have a code for FORTEC LIFETIME ULTRA, just thinking that if I had the receivers codes, I could program it in to see if it'll work that way. What do you guys think? THANKS

A 3 or 4 digit code like you describe is only meaningful to a specific remote, for example, I have several universal remotes, and the codes for various devices that they all have built in, is different in each. For example, for one of my remotes, Chaparral is 216, Sony is 639, RCA is 392, etc, etc. Ie, there is no universal code for Chapparal or Sony or Primstar, etc, and if there was, it would be MUCH longer than 4 digits.
Basically, those 3 or 4 digit codes just refer to a much longer code already stored in your remote. If that code isn't already in your remote, then no code will work. You could try every number from 0 to 9999 and nothing would work. That is why I recommended the JP1 remote, because most of the Universal remotes I've seen don't have a built in code for Fortec, and if they did, it might not be for the Lifetime Ultra. It is possible that the newer remotes might now have a built in Fortec code, but if it did, it will be listed in the manual you get with the remote, or in some cases some codes might not be in the manual, but can be found at the web site of the remote manufacturer.
Basically, what I did, was to use the learning functions of my remote to learn what basic type signal the Fortec remote was sending, which was a NEC1, 32 I think, then key by key I figured out the number sent for each key with that basic NEC1 system, then uploaded it to my remote, and gave it a 4 digit device number of 1786, which basically just tells the remote to use the big set of key codes that I uploaded with that number as a name. If you have a JP1 remote and cable, though, now that that work is done, you can now download that device from the JP1 web page, and won't have to go to all that work, but the Fortec device is a file, not just a 4 digit code.
So bottom line is, that it probably isn't as simple as you want it to be. And if it is, and there IS a 4 digit code for your remote, the answer to your question is in the manual for your remote, and can't be answered by someone with some other remote.
