Galaxy 10R Reception

I have a Fortec Star Ultra Receiver with Universal 0.4db LNB. I am using a Satcontrol Motor. I am confident I have the dish set right for the arch since I can get channels on all satellites within my range when selecting the different ones on my receiver.

However, I only receive two channels on G10R (one horizontal and one vertical of NASA TV). According to Lyngsat, NASA is not even on G10R. In addition, I should get dozens of FTA channels. I have tried all the scans on my reciver including Power Scan and Advanced Scan. I have even tried manually adding the transponders listed on Lynsat.

Does anyone have any suggestions? Do I need a different type of LNB or something. Perhaps this sattelite is not compatable with the Fortec Star?

My guess is that somehow I am realy getting crossover from Echostar 7 @119 W, even though my dish is pointed at 123 W. Echostar has a L/R format. Anyone know if this is possible? Thanks for any help.

There is no problem with respect to compatability. You should have no problem receiving G10r, provided that your lnb is truely a universal, and not one of those so called universal dbs lnbs.
I'm curious what freq you are receiving NASA on? 11447 perhaps, just a guess? You are certainly right, that you are probably actually receiving Echo7, but there are a couple possibilities.
What "lnb type" are you using for G10r? What LO numbers are written on your LNB? Are you sure you set up your due south sat properly? You said you are receiving channels on all sats, but are they the proper channels and do they come up with the proper frequencies?

Check that the vertical post that your h to h motor is attached to is plumb. It must be plumb in both directions and rigid. If the post is out of plumb or flexes you'll have trouble getting the satellites at the end of the arc. Gently lift up or push down on the feed while the dish is pointed at the satellite you're trying to receive and see if the signal quality changes. This will tell you if your setup is off.

G10r transponders vary greatly in signal strength and if any part of your setup (vertical post, h to h motor elevation, and dish declination) isn't close to exact you may only be able to get the strong transponders if any at all.

Keep trying to fine tune it and you'll eventually have it locked in. Be sure to lubricate the threads of all the clamps or they'll strip out from the tightening and loosening required to optimize the setup.

Galaxy 10R Reception

Thanks for your replies. I am receiving NASA on 12296(H) and 12296(V) when my dish is pointed (according to my receiver and h-h motor). I am also receiveing about two dozen audio channels at that location.

On all the other satellites, the frequencies are correct as they are listed on Lyngsat. I used a level all around the post that my dish is mounted to. It appears to be plumb.

The only other thing that may be the problem is a dead tree that is west of where my dish is pointed. Could the signal from G10R be coming from an angle at the dish and thus blocked by that tree?

I am praying that it falls (away from my house). I have warned the neighbors about large cracks in the trunk, but they are still unwilling to cut it down.

Thanks again for all your help

I see that my slightly off the wall guess was wrong. It is possible that your tree is blocking the view of G10r, possibly because an offset dish isn't really aimed where it seems to be aimed, but is really aimed higher.
However, more likely is that you don't have the dish/mount aligned well enough. If any one of the three angles, (ie the angle on the motor, the angle on the dish, or the true south angle) was off when you started, then you will often get reception higher in the arc, but will be unable to track the arc toward the extremes, and since there is a big gap between sats with viewable dvb on ku in that area, you might not notice the gradual deterioration in reception as you go from sat to sat. What is your longitude, and what sat did you set up as your true south sat? When you did that, did you have problems finding it? If so, when you searched for it, which angle did you alter, and how much did it change from the initial settings before you found the sat? This of course assumes that you've followed the instructions for your motor/dish at the Saduon site.
You might describe the process you went through to align the system, ie your location, and what angles you set, how you found true south, etc.

Galaxy 10R Reception

Thanks again for your help. I am using SBS6@74.0W for my southern Satellite. I also programed my location in my receiver as 43.1N and 76.1 W.

I am also confused on my LNB tilt. Do I turn it clockwise or counter clockwise when looking toward the center of the dish? How much (in minutes on a clock) should I turn it?
