Probably not big enough, but it can't hurt to try. You might pick something up. However it is far from ideal. Most people consider about 30" (height not width) to be about the minimum you'd want. I can't remember how big the Dish500 is, but if I remember, I think it is closer to 24", which is a bit too small. But you might as well try it if it is set up already.

It will work either way, but I would tend to use the adjustment on the dish, and keep the lnb orientated square relative to the dish itself. The adjustment on the dish is really not for polarity, but instead to allow the dish to aim at two satellites, but it would have the same effect by simulating the orientation you would have if you had a motorized dish. But since the dish seems to be designed to aim this way, you might as well use the adjustment they provided.
