scott1 is on a distinguished road
setting skew and dish size

Two questions ---

Where I have my motorized dish set up - I can't get g10r. I have a lot of trees around here and put the dish in what seems to be the best place. I have some other places in the yard where I have a view of this sat. I also have an old dish 500 -- I bought a new linear lnb - my questions----

1. Is this dish big enough - I live in upstate new york? From the information on Lyngsat is looks like the signal is very strong from this sat.

2. When I set the skew -- should I tilt the dish (this dish has a place for making this adjustment) or should I tilt the lnb like what seems to be suggested on the Sadoun site?

Thanks for the help ----

Probably not big enough, but it can't hurt to try. You might pick something up. However it is far from ideal. Most people consider about 30" (height not width) to be about the minimum you'd want. I can't remember how big the Dish500 is, but if I remember, I think it is closer to 24", which is a bit too small. But you might as well try it if it is set up already.

It will work either way, but I would tend to use the adjustment on the dish, and keep the lnb orientated square relative to the dish itself. The adjustment on the dish is really not for polarity, but instead to allow the dish to aim at two satellites, but it would have the same effect by simulating the orientation you would have if you had a motorized dish. But since the dish seems to be designed to aim this way, you might as well use the adjustment they provided.
