hooking up to a big dish

I am just playing around -- I was given a bud - 10ft mesh - I can't put it up so that it will rotate - I just want to see if I can get some stations from a single satellite i.e. satmex. I would aim the dish at satmex - the polarity of the particular frequencies I am interested in are all the same - the lnb that came with it has cband and ku band. Could I just run a line or two to a switch and then to the fortec ultra?

Big Dish

Yes, you should be able to do exactly that.

I agree with the other responder, but I am curious how you are going to adjust the polarity? Ie unless you are lucky, and it just happens to be on the correct polarity, you'll have to be able to change the polarity to tune in the signal you want. There are a few options, like buying a device to convert from the lnbf style polarity switching that the Fortec can perform to the polarotor pulses that most big dish systems use, or manually rotating either the whole feedhorn, or taking off the polarotor and manually rotating the shaft. However most people use an analog receiver to control the polarity. Although most people are also interested in tuning in some analog signals too, by "T"ing off the coax lines. But with that sat, I guess that isn't an option.
