We get this question often. The cause of this is when a user changes the the TV Type in the User Setup Menu in the receiver. See picture below:
If you are in North America, the TV Type should be NTSC. If you change TV Type to PAL, the TV will not recognize the signal and the picture on the TV screen will start rolling in black and white.
DIY Solution:
1- If you have a flat screen LCD or TFT computer monitor, most likelty it will have a Video input jack. Connect your satellite receiver Video out to the Video IN on your monitor. This will allow you to to see the receiver's USER Menu again. Switch the setting for TV TYPE back to NTSC. Now hook your receiver back to your regular TV and you should be all set.
2- If you don't have a flat screen monitor, then go to Wl Mart and buy a small Black and White TV for around $30. Hook your receiver to that TV. You will see the menu. Switch the setting for TV TYPE back to NTSC. Now hook your receiver back to your regular TV and you should be all set.
Tip: To prevent kids from playing with the receiver's menu and settings, put a parental control password.
