Fortec Star firmware

Help Please,
I just downloaded the lastest firmware from fortecstar ultra_041101_250_api and now my box wont boot. When I plug it in this is what happens.

"ON" comes on display for 1 sec
then "-- -- -- --" goes across screen then
"n" cones on display
then it just starts looping the same sequence

Any Help or where I can find and older factory firmware flash

Thanks
K

Firmware Problem

I had the same problem. Fortunately, I had purchased three systems. I did a receiver to receiver transfer to the unit I ruined by downloading new firmware to. This restored it to the original and enableing it to work again.

After several other attempts, I found that my problem was that I uploaded a "zipped" file to the receiver. After dowloading the new firmware from Fortec's web site, it must be "unzipped" before uploading it to the receiver.

Sadoun will not repair units altered by consumers. I would be willing to help you out and do the same to your unit I did for mine. No charge. Just pay the freight both ways. Respond to this post if you are interested.

Are you sure you were using the right cable? Many people who have problems downloading the firmware were using the wrong cable. I always test communications with the channel editing software before trying a firmware upgrade.
Secondly, from the file name of your firmware, it looks to me like you have the PAL version of the software. Are you using a PAL TV?
After making sure you have the proper cable and the proper software, read back through the past messages in this forum. THere are several posts explaining how to get a receiver in the state you have it to start downloading.

Firmware Upgrading

I have little doubt that the reason people are hosing up their receivers is due to improper proceedure. Although I do not have a FTV system yet, I do alot of upgrading on my test equipment I use at work via the Web Page. First we download the newest version of software, usually it is a zipped file. Then instead of transferring it directly to a flash card, we must create a directory on the H.D with any name, in which to unzip the file into. Following that, we just copy, paste all data to the flash card followed by flash card removal and insert it into the test equipment getting the upgraded version of software. Hope my $0.03 worth can help anyone. :mozilla_tongue:

One of the key things about sending the flash update is wait till there is a pop up box that says "done" or "ready" or something.

The progress bar will run to 100%, then just sit there for a while (1/2 minute). then the finalize pop up box shows.

If the user disconnects the cable during this inbetween peroiod, well the process hasnt completed yet.

I'n not saying this user did this in this instance, but something to be aware of.
