Time Factor

How long would it take to tune a Fortec Star dish to a correct frequency or set it up? (5 to 10 minutes or maybe more than 2 hours?) :?:

Now there's a loaded question if there ever was one...

It depends on many factors; experience, location of dish, trees nearby, size of dish, what satellites you want, etc. It took me 8 hours to align my first 33" dish on IA5; now it takes around 2 minutes.

I agree with Bobkat. It took me few hours first time. Now I take my dish down, even the motor occasionalyy and I can but them back toget and tune it correctly in 5 minutes (and that's just by eyeballing it ).

The trees are about 80 to 100 feet away from the house. There is open field in the back as well as the front. Is it possible to achieve at least a moderate amount of signal strength with the dish being at least 2 feet above ground? It really does not matter if the dish is mounted on the house or the ground, just as long as the view of the southern sky is clear. I need to know the location of AMC 3 from where I live. Thoughts?

Trees should not present a problem. Dish on the ground is OK. Check out this calculator to get the coordinates for your area for AMC3.
