newb with questions [hh-990 motor, Fortec Lifetime Ultra]

Hi - Just got in some gear and I'm trying to put it together.
First - I'm in Houston at LAT 30 Long 95.42 ..

Gear List:
1. Digiwave DGHH-990 Motor Mount [thats from the outside of the box]
the manual says 'SPM990'
2. Fortec Star 80 cm offset dish, model FC-80-cm
3. Fortec Star Lifetime Ultra .

What I've done so far:
1. Found South, then found TRUE South, and mounted the dish and rotor.
2. Hooked up the cable to the receiver .
3. Set the Elevation Angle to 60 degrees, based on the lat val of 30.

I'm just a bit stumped here - the docs say its DiscEQ 1.2 compatible, but the box says it can do usals as well -

I've yet to 'get the motor to move' from setting anything in the receiver -
is there some nice 'how-to' for making this work ?
I've viewed the docs over at http://www.sadoun.com/Sat/Installati...stallation.htm
and fwiw - this motor mounting arm points DOWN - most of the other motors I've seen on the net POINT UP .

I had messed with a satellite setup multiple times last night, making the cofiguration for one of the 'named' satellites DISCEq 1.2, and then
thought, each time, that the motor mount would move when a scan was initiated. Alas - that wasn't the case at all. The motor did not move .
The motor light is green, and I can move it manually back at the pole.

This morning I tried some of the USALS settings, still to no avail, the motor did not move .

When I looked at the DigiWave.Ca site - I could not find this exact model of motor (sigh) but this is supposedly new product.

I think I'm missing something quite basic ...
Any thoughts or tips or tricks would be appreciated.
and .
Thanks in advance !!!
mondo regards [Bill]

The elevation angle is wrong. Make sure your motor is set at the same value as your latitiude.

Follow the same instructions fo our Satcontrol motor to calculate the dish elevation angle.

Make sure you set the Lat and Long correctly in your receiver. Long should be West and not East.

elevation agle offset is tricky ?

Going by your formulat (P-45 - latitute )
then I have an elevation offset angle for the dish of 40.05 using your calculator - and thats the offset to use for the dish ?

The Motor is set to 30 degrees lat
so i set the dish to 40.05 ? does that sound right ?

also - you're right- my longitude is WEST .

still no joy with the gear though -
so we unmounted everything, took another sight bearing for true south, remounted the motor, then remounted the satellite - and still no joy . We used the formulas you specified for the satelitte offset angle, though.

I think the HH-90 you are thinking about is NOT the DigiWave DGHH-990 -

the documentation that came with it is for the 'SPM990' motor mount, and this beast POINTS DOWN .
--
from the docs, page 3: [quoted directly, with typos and bad xlat]
2. Setting Elevation angle of the mount -
Setting elevation angle of the mount accfording to your latitude (reference to the attached ANGLE TABLE).adjust the Elevation angle via the Elevation scare on both sides of the mount [endquote]
so I looked at the latitude - its 29.75 - so look this up in the 'ANGLE TABLE' and it says '60 degrees' for latitude 30 degrees. SO I'm taking 60 degrees elevation for the motor mount.
it goes on further:
3. Setting Declination angle -
Attachig the antenna to thte mont, make sure the central line s at the center of antenna, find the declination angle by the attached ANGLE TABLE. [endquote ]
So I look in the table, again for LAT 30 - and the declination angle is 4.916.
then [quote]
Set the Declination angle by the scale on the atenna, the reading on the dish scale should be:
40 degrees - Declination Angle [endquote]
which then makes this new angle to be 35.084 ..
I've set that, yesterday, and the input signal stays at around 50 percent.

Moving forward -
IF I move the angle on the dish mount around, I get a better signal, and was able to lock in to the IA 5 satellite .

But - I really think this is a 'base 0' problem - ie- what the heck should base 0 be for this motor mount and this satelitte dish ?

Thanks in advance [and not this isn't a STAB motor] [Bill]

SG2100 motor ?

Ah - are you stating that the DigiWave DGHH-990 and the SG2100 motors are functionally identical ?

thanks in advance for your response [Bill]

checked the invoice again ..

Hi - after all of this fun machinations [ug ug]
I though I better check the invoice again - just for a sanity check.

The motor is actually a DigiWave HH-668
which can be found here:

http://www.digiwavetechnologies.com/...position=28:28

I'll muck about with this again next weekend - Thank you for your assistance !!!! If you have any more hints though - I'm all ears [and dishes] ..

warmest regards [Bill]

declination angle?

The docs from this beastie say 40 degrees minus the calculated angle for the dish offset angle .

IF this is 'similar' to the SG2100 -
then it should be 30 degrees minus the calculated angle ?
see here -> http://pbh-sales.com/sg2100help.htm#ELEVATION

They look identical. If I remember correctly there were two versions of sg2100 and earlier one had misprinted in documetation that formula should be 40-declination angle and later on it was corrected to say 30-declination angle.

Either way, just try both. Your declination angle according to the printed manual you posted is 4.916 (since your latitude is 29.7).

Does you motor has markings on both sides? On sg2100 one side has "Elevation" the other has "Latitude". It is easier to set the latitude since you know it for sure.

Once you have motor elevation set, then your dish elevation should be 40-4.916 so approx. 35. It will definately take a little peaking up and down, but that should get you started.

Sadoun has a declination chart for sg2100 and values seem close to ones from your manual:
