DIGITAL TERRESTIAL SIGNALS

I live in Atlanta Georgia and have just read that ALL of my locals are now available over-the-air (Terrestrial, not Satellite) in MPEG-2 Format. When looking on the FortecStar website it appears the newest Lifetime model is equipped to receive Digital Terrestial and Digital Satellite signals. Does anyone know how this would work? Is it possible to point a satellite dish at my local television tower, program in a "new satellite" and search for these signals?

Does anyone know anything about this new receiver, or anything about how to receive Digital Terrestial signals?

Thanks, Mark

i believe DVB-T isnt the standard in the united states for digital terestrial tv , in the USA it is ATSC, that reciever will work

Although it may sound misleading, to receive OTA (over the air) digital signal, you need an ATSC compliant receiver which is basically an HDTV receiver. If you are subscribing to Dish network or Directv, most of their HDTV receivers can also receive OTA signals. You can also get a standalone hdtv receiver that will get over the air digital signals.

Actually you can receive OTA digital signals on a regular TV if you have a digital tuner pluged into one of the imputs. I have a Samsung tuner and the picture is as good as pictures on my 4DTV. Some stations are broadcasting up to four programs at once and I receive all the stations in Tucson over 100 miles away.
While the picture is good it is not a true digital picture without a digital TV.

TOM, TELL ME MORE...

Tom:

Thanks for the tip. You mention you are getting 4 channels at once? What do you mean exactly. I noticed that the ABC station here in Atlanta is broadcasting their regular programming AND a new news channel called ABC NewsNow.

What OTA receiver are you using for HDTV terrestrial signals? Can you receive FTA HDTV signals also?

Thanks, Mark

I can't receive HDTV signals because I don't have an HDTV. I bought a Samsung SIR-T 151 digital set top box at Sam's Club earlier this year. It was there last one and it was marked down to $179 so I bought it to play with.
Each station can broadcast up to four channels at the same time in SD.For
example PBS Tucson broadcasts 6.1,6.2,6.3,and 6.4 all different shows from PBS during the day. In the evening they switch to HDTV. at that time they can broadcast one HDTV channel or one HDTV channel and one SD channel.
At present the only stations in my area broadcasting more than one channel are PBS and ABC.
Many digital stations are broadcasting at less than full power at the present time so some weaker stations will probably come in better in the future.
