Geometric distortion on FS ULTRA rec.
Hello to everybody,
I just have purchased FS LIFETIME ULTRA rec. There are noticeable geometric distortion on "channel info frame" (when you change channel).
What is the other users experience? I am using S-video output.
Separately, I also compared this receiver with another - DMT-1000. Dish - 36 in. (90 sm.) was installed before. The satellite is somewhat blocked by tree. The DMT registered stength/quality of 77-78/98, with SOME channels on the SAME TP frequently loosing picture. In the same setup Ultra registered 85/86 w/o loosing channels. Seems to be more sensitive. Overall picture quality is slightly better on DMT, but not to such extent that someone will complain.
My impression that ULTRA is not extremely linear on picture either. I do not see any distortion with DMT.

Did you try using the composite video output or the RF output? See if it looks any better.

my fortec ultra has geometric distortion now
just noticed since i did a few power scans "blind search". mine is now slow to change channels , loses video on some channels even with a 80%+ signal and quality. not to mention the info bar at the bottome of the screen fades in and out a little. I have had a lot of problems with this receiver since i bought it from ####Edited by vj9999 (please no links to other commercial sites)#####. At first it had firmware version 2.29 (which would not move my diseqc 1.2 motor - it was supposed move any diseqc 1.2 or usals motor). It would not. I was told by Brian Gohl from ####Edited by vj9999 (please no links to other commercial sites)##### to install the new 2.44 version of fortec's software available for free on their website. I used their loader program and the new 2.44 firmware. The upload program said upload was successful and the receiver booted up like normal. The geometric problems started shortly after. Mine has geometric distortion using the rca video out jack or (composite) video out. My fortec has no rf channel 3 or 4 output. just s-video and composite(rca video out). if anyone knows how to fix this please help. Trucker

I must say that I am disappointed to see editing of posts in this forum. I understand the reason it was done, and I agree that it is in poor taste to post info about competitors, but I think it is equally poor taste to edit someone else's post for what seems to be non-controversial comments which could have a bearing on the issues being discussed.
Just my opinion.

It may be in poor taste but it is also part of a moderator's job to enforce the rules of this forum. vj9999 did nothing wrong in editing the post -- I would have done the very same thing.

I can understand, if the posted material constituted an "advertisement" which is what the "rules" refer to. But the mere mention of the existance of a competitor seems to be taking this rule to the extreme. I can only hope that perhaps there was more in the deleted material than was apparent after the edit.

wejones. I agree that it is in poor taste, when no harm is meant by the original poster, but also I beleieve that Sadoun provided this forum as a way to provide additional technical support for his customers primarily. It is only fait not to promote or reference other competitors. I look at it like what are the chances of you seeing Circuit City ad on Best Buy's web site
No hard feeling towards the any of other DVB sellers. I think they are all doing a great job

There wasn't much more in deleted material than a mere reference to it. Again I did what I thought was right and I even left the actual name of the competitor unedited (I only deleted a reference to the name of his company). It was in no way meant to discredit him, to contrary I support him as well, but references like that are more appropriate in an independent forum (like satforums).

Exactly. Sadoun pays the bills and makes this forum possible. So it is only fair not to mention his competitors. What wejones says is true in that the link may not be "advertising", per se, but it is very easy to link to the "Products" or "Webstore" pages on most of these sites and thus everyone can see the competing products.
