TP Edit...help!
Given TP: 11250 and 10750 to edit T5, what are the symbol rates? and how do you know/get the numbers? where do you get it?
Thanks

Not sure what you are asking here? And not sure what you mean re
"TP: 11250 and 10750"? Those numbers are LO freqs, and aren't used in the Transponder edit. They are entered in the "Antenna Setup" for each satllite, which might be named differently for different receivers. They depend on what LNB you have, and you don't say what you have.
Re the symbol rates, you can get them from Lyngsat. If you have an analog receiver and a SW receiver, you can also determine them yourself, but again, you don't say what your setup is.

The whole point is that I am trying to set up a Fortec Star dish to pick up signal from T5. This is the third week and I don't get any luck at all. That's why I am trying to edit TP in hope to get some signal.
I have a Pansat receiver hooked up to the Fortec Star dish. I doubt about the LBN and here is its info:
Input Frequency Range: 10.7~11.7GHz (low band); 11.7~12.75GHz (high band).
Output Frequency Range: 950~1950MHz (low band); 1100~2150MHz (high band).
L.O. Frequency: 9.75GHz (low band); 10.6GHz (high band)
I set to Universal 1 and LNB Local-Freq. :9750/10600
Right now I get 85% signal level - but 0% signal quality. I read and read and I learn that you should move the dish as if it doesn't move at all to get signal, but God know how frustrated I am. At first, I thought I get a defected LNB, but I get some signal level so the LNB should be working. Maybe, it's just week or something.
Anyway, I thank you for your help, and all the helps are greatly appreciated.
Thanks

OK it appears you have the LNB config set correctly.
What is your zip code?
Where are you pointing your dish for T5(compass degrees)?
What elevation of the dish are you set at?
Can you take a picture of your dish setup (and put a link to web hosting site attached to a message)?
Lets get the basics squared up, then work on finding an active transponder for T5...

I live in the Northeast. The zip code is 04073
I am pointing at T5 @33.4 (elevation), 215.7 (azimuth), and 25 (SKEW).
When I can get 85% signal level, I believe the physical settings (outside) are not the same.
Here is the link giving the picture of dish looked exactly like mine:

OK...
Your elevation calculation is correct.
Your calculated AZ is ok, but you also need to add your location's magnetic deviation adjustment, which is approx 18 degrees to your value. So the compass direction to point is actually 216+18 = 234
Your skew value is good, you need to twist the LNB counter clockwise so the bottom where the wire comes out is about at the 4:30 on a clock dial.
(This would be looking at the face of the dish as the satellite would....)
THe picture you linked has a negative skew shown (I think, its kinda far from the dish)
So make these adjustments, point your dish a bit more to the west, and fiddle with the elevation. Do not worry about the "signal" level too much. Only concentrate on getting the quality bar to blip, then adjust for highest quality level.
Good luck. Report back your results.

Thank you for your help.
Yes, the AZ line up about 229 on my compass, and the Elevation is about 31. It's not 215.7 and 33.4 as calculated. This set-up gives me the highest signal level, 84%.
Whatever you suggest me to do, I've done it. The Skew I set at 25, which is about 4:30.
I just wonder if the Universal LNB from Wal-Mart will work with my 31" dish to pick up T5? I assume I currently have a bad LNB attached to my 31" Fortec Star dish.
Any suggestion will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

I would take my chances on the LNB that came with your Fortec dish rather than an LNB from Wal-Mart !! I didn't even know Wal-Mart sold LNBs....

Did you go to www.lyngsat.com and find an active transponder for T5 (IA5) ? :?: :?:

You're off by 5 degrees if you are using the ""signal level" as a guide...
You need to be at 234 to find T5 from your location.
EVERYONE thinks their LNB is bad. I did, too untill I found the sat.
Do not trust the elevation scale on the dish. 1/8" will make the quality level disappear - it's that touchy.
Either find a friend with a decent signal meter, or keep trying manually. About the only advise I can give now...
good luck

That is so very true.

Finding the sat was a difficult thing for me as well. It just takes patience and time and small horizontal and vertical adjustments. I installed my dish with a motor drive so once that was set I was able to see most of the whole arc. Good luck.

You still haven't indicated what transponder you are trying to tune. I'm not familiar with how to tune the receiver you are using, but in general, if you are trying to tune a transponder which does not have MPEG digital on it, you will get signal level but no quality. Post back which transponder you are trying to tune, ie freq and SR. This should be something listed in Lyngsat, and should be one of the Ku transponders, ie freq above 11700. Often receivers have transponder data which is obsolete, so you might be trying to tune a signal that isn't there anymore. Also, try both H and V transponders, just in case you aren't changing polarity properly. I agree with others that your lnb is probably OK.

 I would like to thank everyone with effort to help me. I finally got it working. It's all about the patience (three weeks) needed to "search" for the signal. 1/8" could make a BIG different. I patiently moved the dish while my wife kept her eyes on the screen. When there's a flash on the signal quality, my wife stopped me. Then, I narrow down to the point to get good signal. I could never believe that it's so very sensitive.
Someone even suggested me to buy a small TV, so I can bring to the roof and work on signal search, and then return the TV...I think it's a very good idea, but I didn't have to do it .
Thank you all!
