After Firmware Update Lights Flash

Hi

After a Firmware Update I have lights flashing across the display. I understand this means booting (based on readings) but it has not stopped flashing.

I have a Fortec Lifetime

This is what I did

I have a good female to female 9 pin serial cable and the com port works
I used Fortec STB Updater ver.3.21
The bin is Lifetime(N)_040401_224_api
I checked the intergrety of each file

I did a factory reset and powered off
I hooked up the the reciever to the computer via serial cable
I ran the updater and had a successful update (according to the message)
I closed out the program and and turned the reciever off.
I disconnected the serial cable and turned the reciever on at the toogle switch.

Lights started to flash and still flash after 10 minutes. Unit will not go any further.

Assuming that you do have the "Lifetime" and not the "Lifetime Ultra", it looks like you have used the right files, so it must have just been a bad upload for some unknown reason. Did you make sure that your cable in fact work with the Lifetime by running the Gtools program first? I like to test the cable by grabbing data from the receiver before trying to upload data to it.
There are a few fairly recent posts here describing how to try the "download" again by initiating the transfer right after turning the receiver on. I'd suggest reading those posts and trying it. If you want to try a different version of the data file, I have the version you have plus an older version from late last year. (I still have the older version in my receiver.)

where can I download the Gtools program from?

I am having a lot of trouble making my computer and Lifetime Ultima to tallk to each other. I have tried different cables, parameters, etc but still cannot get them to talk to each other. As suggested, below, I would like to try to get info from the receiver first before giving up. Can you tell me where to go to download the program? Thanks.

The STB editor should allow you to upload data FROM the Lifetime to the computer, without risking getting a corrupt firmware download. This should tell you if the computer is communicating.

And I assume you have the Ultra, not the Ultima. Some of the Fortec programs require you to type in the model name with correct spelling and correct case. I don't have an Ultra, so I'm not sure if it is Lifetime ULTRA
or Lifetime Ultra, but you'll need some caps for sure.

Make sure you read the pgm description at the web pages above, because they indicate firmware requirements, etc.

Hopefully someone with the Ultra can guide you more. I think the other poster just had a regular Lifetime.
