Signal 00% with Fortec Star DVB-786v3

hi,

Today I installed my new sat system which I baught from
Sadoun. After 2 hours, I was able to get the signal (80%)
Quality (75%) and I was able to watch my programs on
Sat 5( 97W). :P However, tonight when I turned on
my receiver, I am getting 0% signal (with bad signal) displayed
on my TV. Before the installation I was getting a red bar (with
the quality of 50%) but now I do not even get that red bar.
Is there something wrong with the unit ot LNB? The fact
that I do not even get red bar is troubling and yes, I did check
to see if my Dish is still on the roof. I want to call Sadoun and
ask for replacement but I was just wondering how come all
the sudden there is no signal.

Thanks
Leo

Have you checked your continuity? Specifically, your connectors on both ends? To be sure the connectors didn't come loose?

Thanks for the feedback. It is 1:00am and I checked the
connection of the cable here in my living room and it is nice
and tight. I will check the coonection on the roof tomorrow morning.
Still don't understand why signal strength and signal Quality
both are zero. I think it may be bad LNB.

Not sure, it stinks.

In antena setup, is your LNB still set up as universal 1 (or whatever lnb you have)?

Sometimes if not crimped properly the cable comes loose and can practically fall out. Hope that is the solution!

All those guys posted good possible causes. It is likely not the LNB or the receiver at fault. Everybody likes to blame the hardware first -- rarely does it cause the problems. Sometimes weird things happen though; I have a Coship in the shop that was sitting on top of a DVD player. The DVD player did not get really hot so I figured no problem. Well, as the Coship heated up the signal got weaker and weaker. Very strange. I hooked the dish up to a different receiver and signal was fine. Then I moved the Coship to a shelf on its own and its fine. Go figure...

Thanks again for everyone help.

The LNB type is set to Universal ( I have a fortec LNB) too.
There was no wind last night and I do not think the dish is mis aligned
because during the installation yesterday, even with out pointing
at the right SAT location, I was getting Signal of 50% (the red bar)
and Quality of 0%. Today, I do not even get any bar "NO RED". I am not dish expert but I really think there maybe 2 problems.

1. The cable is bad (which I hope the problem but I do not think so
until I swap the cable). I have used the same cable for 6 years
with my dish network and it was working fine till yesterday night.

2. Bad hardware. ( I noticed the receiver was very hot yesterday
but there was no burning smell so I thought it was ok.

So my question is, if one disconnects the cable from LNB, would
the signal be at 0%? Also, if LNB is bad, would the signal be 0%?
I just don;t get it why there is no red bar. I have Master reset the
box and that did not help. This is really bad.

Thanks,
Leo

PS> I hope Sadoun is reading this because my last option is to
ask for new LNB and new Reciever. I baught the system 10 days ago.

It is normal for the receiver to get warm during operation; don't worry about this. It is also normal for the receiver to show 50% signal when not pointing at the right satellite; in fact some receivers will show signal strength even with no LNB connected to the cable. The key is "quality"; when you find a quality reading then you know you have hit the satellite you are looking for.

If you had it working yesterday and were watching programs from IA5 (97 W) then I can only assume either a physical problem or a setup problem. The cable is one likely cause; check all the connectors carefully. Or the receiver setup has changed. Double check the L.O. frequency, make sure LNB power is ON and make sure the transponder parameters are entered correctly for IA5.

Good Luck and keep us posted.

I figure what the problem is. I had an old LNB from my Dishnetwork
and I swapped it with my current LNB and right a way I got the
beautiful red bar. (if still some people can call it beautiful).... :-)
anyway, LNB is bad. Not good for a product which was used
for less than few hours with NE sunny weather. I wonder how
it will last through cold stormy winters days... someone
told me fortec stuff is not reliable... oh well.

Regards,
Leo

Hang on a second...

You cannot pick up IA5 with a DishNetwork LNB. Those LNBs are circular polarity; unless its one of the old ExpressVu linear LNBs. Are you sure you are watching channels from IA5? Give us some examples of channels you get.

I thinks what he's trying to say is:

1. When FTA LNBF is hooked up, there is no "signal" and no "quality" bars on display.

2. When he hooks up circular LNB, he gets "signal" level (the red) but until he points it at a Dish or DTV sat he won't get any "quality" (green) level. But it seems like the LNB has become active at least.

-------------------
I cant remember if when I turn off my LNB voltage the "signal" part of the indicator bar drops off. I know if I'm changing transponders, I see it drop and go back up for a split second as (I assume) it's changing LO frequencies...

OK. I'm not familiar with these Fortecs... I just assumed the RED level was quality. Thanks.

I currently have similar problem for trying to get Telstar5 in New York City as well. I seem to have my Fortec Star dish (80cm) pointed at the right angle (213 degrees) and elevation level (37.4) and the DVB-786v3 set to all of the suggested settings, i.e. 1, universal, etc. However, the only thing I get is the signal level which goes up as high as 87% and the signal quality keeps staying at 0%. I have even tried to point to different satellites, i.e. directv, etc, but the same thing happens. I don't know what I am missing here, but I'd appreciate for any help you expert out there can provide. Thanks.

Generally it is simply a matter of patience. Very slow movements when moving the dish. There are many good threads dealing with your problem. Do a search on "Telstar5" -- happy reading. Here is but one example ---> http://sadoun.com/Forum/phpBB2/viewt...2108abc739f5a2
