Well, first thing you need to establish is what type of programming are you interested in receiving. Any idea? Tell us this and we will take this further.

fortec ultra

I am in Ohio also have just installed a fortec lifetime ultra using my DTV 18" single LNB dish. I get 89% power and 70% quality but I can't find anything but scrambled or bad channels. Am I messing something in the setup? I was told this unit would pickup all dishnet channels.
Thanks
SteadyShot

A1SteadyShot please read the rules. What you are talking about is very illegal and very prohibited to talk about around here. If you want to watch dish network you have to subscribe and use dish network provided receiver.

If you would like to discuss FTA (free to air) stuff (and this does not include receiving any pay programming for free) please feel free to ask. Any other discussion will get this thread closed by the time one of the moderators log in.

Unlike Steadyshot I'd be happy with just the FTA's. What I'd like to know is if what I have is able to get them and how to set it up. I have an 18" DTV dish with a single lnb and a new Fortec Star Lifetime Ultra. The dish and lnb are 6+ years old so would it be standard, universal 1 or how can I tell. Do I just have to get things pointed right or am I missing some components. Appreciate any help.Thanx

You've got all the right components. You need to set the LNB frequency in your receiver to 11,250 MHz; that is neither Universal nor Standard. Then aim you dish at a DBS satellite (other than a DTV bird) with FTA channels. I would suggest if you really want the most from your receiver you get a 30" or bigger KU dish and linear LNB (Standard or Universal, doesn't matter). You will then have way more variety to choose from in free-to-air channels. If you get a motor as well then that's the optimum in FTA channel surfing.

losing signal normal in FTAs?

Hi guys:

I recently conected the Lifetime Ultra to a 3 ft antena and pointed it at the Galaxy 10 satellite. Signal and quality are at 85+. I receive several channels, but from time to time I lose the signal for a few seconds, is this normal in FTA? Thanks.

It is if you live near an airport  Don't worry, lots of things can make that happen. But double check the cable connections to make sure they are tight and not corroded.
