Remote control Ultra Lifetime blind search

The remote control for the Ultra Lifetime blind search is bad.
1. short range, only 10 feet or less
2. battery drains out quickly
3. un-expected action when push certain buttons
4. sticky buttons

I have a dishnetwork 301 remote control. I don't know if I can use it to control the Ultra receive. Is anybody able to use other remote?

As I mentioned in another thread, if you get any JP1 programmable remote, such as the RS 2116, and buy a JP1 cable off the internet, or make one, you can program the programmable remote to work with the Fortec Lifetime.

I agree that the stock Lifetime remote is Terrible. Mainly because the buttons stick on, and when that happens, all sorts of other problems begin.

How can I tell if a remote is JP1 programmable? How much it costs for the RS 2116 and JP1 cable? Thanks.

Typically, a JP1 remote will have a small 6 pin connector inside the battery compartment. There are several RS remotes that are JP1 compatable, but the sales people have no idea of what JP1 is, and it doesn't mention JP1 in the manuals or product description.
Re price, the 2116 is an 8 in 1 remote. I think it cost something like $29, but they have other models that are cheaper. I'm only familiar with the 2116, but a partial list of RS models that are compatable is:
15-1994
15-1995
15-2103
15-2104
15-2107
15-2116
15-2117
15-2133
Also most One-4-All remotes are compatable (I think they make the RS remotes), and some other brands are also.
The cable costs somewhere around $10-$12 I think. I think I posted a link on another thread, but if you can't find it, I can look it up again. Also, the cable can be made easily, if you have some old computer cables laying around.
Once you have the remote and the cable, there is a Yahoo JP1 list that has the programs you need to upload the Fortec info to the remote. The Yahoo list isn't active except for the files section, as the discussions have moved to another forum.
Using a programmable remote isn't quite as obvious as using the regular Fortec remote, because you have to remember what button does a couple of the functions, but most of the buttons are the same. But the programmable remote doesn't have the sticking buttons, and other problems of the stock remote.

Thanks for the info. I will see what I can do with the dishnetwork 301 remote.

The dish remote controls 4 devices, SAT, TV, VCR, AUX. I need to make sure it has the JP1. Secondly I need to make sure the Yahoo JP1 software doesn't mess up TV, VCR controls. Thirdly I hope it won't cost me much .
