Power Cord

I bought a Fortec Star from some punk on ebay stating a north american model. The power cord looks european to me as it is two small round protrusions rather than the blades I'm used to. Can I simply replace the cord end, is there a converter, or Caveat Emptor and I'm screwed.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you!

You can purchase a step up transformer from and industrial electronics
store. It should be a small investment, because the receiver itself draws
very little power. Then you will probably have to also change the plug
to match the outlet of the transformer. Kinda depends on what you can
get your hands on.
If you need help let me know. Pm ok.

Thanks for the response. Does that mean that my voltage of the unit is other than 110-120v? If so, what voltage is used with the double pins? I may need to know to get the right transformer.

Thanks in advance.

Yes that plug is euro. The voltage should be listed on the back panel of
the receiver. Should be 240v. So you would purchase a 120 volt to
240 volt step up transformer. Cheapest I could find in the mouser catalog.
Stancor auto/isolation transformer part# P-8640 @ $60.75 .. /500watts.
Way bigger than you need. You should be able to locate a 150watt for
around $30, thats my best quess..

Before you buy the xformer check the voltage rating of your receiver. Many receivers are rated 100-240 Volts, 50/60 Hz; in which case all you need is the plug adapter thing.

I bought mine two years ago from Sadoun and the plug was round as described. However, Fortec Star included an adapter to switch the prong type from round to blade. You can get it from a hardware store for $1.00.

Most likely the receiver you have could have a universal power supply 100-220V. If not, then you will need a transformer.

See the picture here: http://sadoun.com/Sat/Products/Forte...icture_034.jpg

A plug adapter is needed as noted above.
