Ultra Remote Control

Does anybody have a work around.

The Ultra remote is messing up my Rotel A/V receiver.
Symptoms are the A/V receiver won't power down with its remote, you
have to hit the power switch on the receiver. Then on power up all my
video and sound associations are gone. I spend 5 to 10 minutes resetting
them.

Make sure that the Ultra remote doesn't have it's buttons sticking in the "ON" state. It is a terrible remote. Half the time it doesn't work and the other half of the time the buttons turn sideways and get stuck. If the remote sticks on, it will mess up other IR devices.
I have programmed my RS-2116 8-in-one remote to run my Lifetime receiver. It takes a while to figure out which button on the 2116 does what, but once you figure it out, it works more reliably. It does require a JP1 cable and a computer to program the remote though. There are cheaper RS remotes that are JP1 capable, but I'm not sure which models. The RS people don't even know what JP1 is. However you can tell, if you open up the battery compartment and see a little 6 pin connector next to the battery.

Interesting..

Iam about ready to give up on the Ultra. I'll try to program the Rotel
A/V receiver remote to work the Ultra. What would I use as a search
criteria for finding the jp1 cable info, on the internet.
Thanks,
Dave

Re cable, I bought mine at

http://www.bluedo.com/bluedocgi/prod...odel=JP1-Cable

Also, the files section at the Yahoo JP1 group has info on how to make a cable.
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/jp1/
and the associated forum for questions is at:
http://www.hifi-remote.com/forums/

I uploaded the device codes for the Fortec Lifetime to the files section at the Yahoo site above, but you probably have to join the group to get to that directory.
