Ultra or a 786NA:Please Help a First Time Buyer

I am hoping to get a system for Father's Day.I wish to use my system to "see" what FTA/new, not yet in the system, channels Dish Network carrys(I in no means are referring to any form of hacking).I also hope to get the locals off of G10r(In time I plan on adding a HH motor). When you do one of the scans with the 786 what info do you need to start with? Does it give you a complete listing of all the channels on a particular satellite or just the FTA one's? Will I be happy with the 786 and it's abilities for what i'm looking for? I can get a whole system almost for what the Ultra costs alone.I feel I can live without AC3 & S-Video.I really would appreciate everyones input.Thank you for a wonderful forum and site! Sincerely, Mike

fORGET THE 786, i THINK IT IS A BOMB. I CANNOT GET ANYTHING ON MINE WITH A 90% SIGNAL AND 96 QUALITY READING. FOR WHAT YOUR REALLY LOOKING FOR , I THINK YOU WILL DO MUCH BETTER WITH A ULTRA BLINB.

Before you give a negative feedback on a product, please give some info to back up your comments. What channels can't you view? What sat does your dish aim at? In addition, please turn off Cap Lock. 90% in strength and 96% in quality is very good. You should not have any problem.

The Fortec Star 786 is on eof the best receiver I have used. Easy menus and locks in satellite signals instantaneously. Have a nice picture and sound. You can have a list for each satellite so you don't get confused.
A friend of mine has a TV with a scart coonecter(euro connecter) and connect his TV to Fortec and hace a very sharp picture. Unfortuntely, in the USA there are not a lot of TVs with Scart connection. .The scart provide a better picture than the s-video.
I played with a lot of receivers and I never saw anything simple, slim, affordable and solid receiver like the Fortec 786.

Fortec 786NA

Hi All,

I see that some else is thinking of the same model. I also need all your help :!:

I've tried to flash my unit with Fortec's loader, I've tried al7's loader. I bought a null modem and a straight through cable, but I can't even get the thing to recognize my unit. Here's what I'm using:

OS on my PC is Win XP, I've saved the programs on a zip disk and running the EXE program from the Zip. Question one: Should I have loaded the program directly to the PC hard drive?

Now here's the symptoms from my STB. It first says "boot", then it says "NOCH".

No matter what I do, I can't get the program to recognize the STB. With the Fortec loader program this is what it says: "Please, Try STB Power Off and On" (Uploader 4).

The same problem with Al7's loader, it comes back with: "Flash Update Failed".

Here's the million dollar question I have for all you Genius's as I'm a Green Horn, is this, What's going on? I don't really have a clue. I've been reading and printing so much info and believe I should be able to do it, but .... I'm having a major Data Over Load  ....LOL!

Thanks for All the Help you Guys can Give ME!

If this still won't work any one interested in a 786NA, I haven't givin up yet  , just will buy an  Ultra

Re: Fortec 786NA

What wrong with the current firmware? Uploading any unofficial firmware might get you damanged the receiver for good. Also, we don't discuss illegal subject here.
Regards,
Michael
