Power scan

I have a BUD with a 4DTV and both C and Ku band LNB's I am using a DiSEqC switch. The user guide is not too clear on how to set the switch and LNB's. Do I set the LNB to standard? How do I know which mode to use for the switch? How does the power scan work? Do I need to scan once with my 4Dtv on an even channel and once on an odd channel, or will the Fortec scan both?

You don't say what receiver you are using, and don't give specifics about how you are connected, but I'm guessing that you have the Diseq switch controlling whether you are on C or Ku, and have polarity controlled by the 4DTV. In that case, then, as you suggest, you will have to scan twice, once with the 4DTV on horizontal polarity, and again with it on vertical polarity.
I also assume that you are "T"'d off the LNB coaxes using a DC block, so that the 4DTV is providing power to the LNBs. One thing I noticed with my receiver and Diseq switch, which may be different in your case, is that even though my analog receiver is providing power to the LNBs, I found it necessary to keep the lnb power option ON, for the Fortec receiver, even though it wasn't powering the LNBs, because the Diseq switch wouldn't work unless the LNB power was on.
Re setting the LNB setting to Standard, this may be different with your model receiver, but with my regular Lifetime, I had to use Standard, and set the LNB freq to either 5150 or 10750 . I found it necessary to define separate satellites for C and Ku, because it didn't seem possible to set a high and low LNB freq when in standard mode, but this may be different with your receiver.

Same thing goes when using the 22KHz swith and Lifetime...

Yes that's my setup. I have my C and Ku each going through a hi-freq splitter with a DiSEqc switch in between. My receiver is the Fortec Star Ultra. When I scan twice, (once V and once H) I believe I'm getting some duplication. I think this receiver is smart enough to scan both polarities. I'll have to verify that. I don't get much time to play with my new toy, I have to wait until my wife goes to bed, you know. This is what I used to hook it all up:

The Fortec receiver may be smart enough to scan both polarities and it's possible to do, but with the setup you referenced, there isn't any connection between the Fortec and the polarotor at the dish and I don't think it is capable of controlling a polarotor "directly" in any event, so I'm assuming that polarity is only controlled by the 4DTV.
It isn't unusual that you would have duplication, but I'm guessing that this is because you don't have the polarity adjusted properly on the 4DTV. Ie if your polarity is off quite a bit, you can get signals from both V and Horizontal transponders.

I get the same thing, some duplication when I scan both polarities. Also the clock has gained 7 minutes since this morning.
Another thing to you must scan scrambled channels or any channels in the group that are in the clear wont scan in.

Tom
