Help: Receiver dead after upgrading
Please help, Please
I followed the instructions from Fortec Star to upgrade my 9800v2. It seems uploading OK. After complete uploading 100%, I kept waiting for the complete message but did not see it. After waiting for about 10 min and saw nothing happen, I cancelled the uploading. The receiver was at "boot" and does not response even with the power switch. Finally, after waiting for 10 more minutes and saw nothing happen, I unplugged the power cord. Since then, the front pannel has a single green dot when plugged and no longer response to the power switch.
What should I do next. Help.

Receiver dead after upgrading
I went through the same thing yesterday (9800 V2) and though it was screwed. I was using Uploader 4 to upgrade the Boot Loader and Compress Application. I too would only get a dot on the display when it was plugged in. Uploader 4 is new so maybe there is a problem with it?
The solution that worked for me was to use Uploader 3 which has a pulldown box to choose what you want upload, (ver 4 only had "BootLoader" and "All") With Uploader 3 I uploaded the Boot Loader and Compress Application which I had tried to do when it locked up.
Uploader 3 isn't on the site for download anymore, if you need a copy leave a message here and I'll send it to you, or email me at mjimw@yahoo.com

You need to understand that we have other things in our life beside this hobby. Before you critisize others, think twice. Mods here don't get paid. But that's not the reason why there are no answer. I mod some of the sections here. Being a mod, it does not mean I know every thing. In this case, I don't own this receiver, therefore I honestly don't know the answer. I think if I don't know, I better not saying anything and leave it to others who know to jump in. If you can't help, please do not critize others. This kind of message really make me upset. I don't know if I still want continuing posting here.

Most likely you have corrupted the boot file, due to an incomplete or incorrect software upload, and the receiver won't boot up anymore. That is why we warn not to mess around with uploading any software to your receiver.
You might want to try mjim's suggestion (at your own risk ).

Not a criticism, and I know that you warn people about the hazards of uploading software, but I think it is clear that the ability to upload software is at least implicitly being encouraged. In some cases, like with my Lifetime, the advertised features of the receiver (Ie AC3) could only be realized if the uploading was performed.
Since the software used for the uploading came from Fortec, and the process is basically an advertised feature of the receivers, I think there is some responsibility for Fortec and it's distributers to help people who get in this situation. If Fortec can't guarantee their receivers against such software corruption, it seems like they should at least provide service details to help owners recover from these situations on their own. If not, they shouldn't advertise software uploading as a feature, and shouldn't make it possible to perform without breaking the warantee seal.
Personally, I prefer things the way they are, but I'd like to see more service information available at the Fortec web page.
Just my opinion.

Thank you for your help.
Mjim, you are right. I couldn't download loader 3 from Fortec Star. Could you please send me a copy of Loader 3. Thanks a million. Khanlee@hotmail.com
FYI. Fortec Star claimed that this is a flash problem and I need to send in my receiver for repair.

I had the same problem when I uploaded the new img file to my 786NA receiver. The uploader displayed 100 percent and then after a few seconds it asked "please wait". I waited for 30 min and nothing happened. I finally cancelled the upload and I got "upload completed" message. My receiver is now completely dead (no display) but I can repeat the uploading process so the booter should still be ok. Can anyone send me the uploader 3 if this can fix the prblem? Please email it to reza@cnst.com.

I fixed my problem using uploader 3.0. I found the uploader3 on an italian website. I think fortec star should inform its customers about the problem with uploader 4.0.
