It will receive only the unscrabled channels on dishnetwork like radio stations. To get scrambled channels you need a dishnet receiver and a suscription using a smart card.
Fortec star is used to get the unscrambled channels on Telsatr 5.
What channels you are looking to receive?

what kinda channels can you get with this receiver,any showtime,hbo,movie channels...what can you view with these receivers,thanks for any info,ml50

No, you can't get any of those type channels that you mentioned. If thats what you want then get a subscription of dish or direct tv. All of those programs are either on fiber or encrypted off satellite and we don't discuss any "hacking" or work arounds to receive encrypted channels.
