I might be looking too deep into this (and this might be a shot in the dark), but here is what I have discovered.

My twinhan 1030a sends out 18V when on H polarity and about 14 V when on V polarity. Ultra sends out around 20-21V when on H and about 15V when on V polarity. I wonder if when switching from V to H or other way around it confuses SG2100!? From what I have experenced, the dish starts moving for no reason when scanning the satellite and it is switching from H transponder to V transponder (and other way around).

You might have something, I checked my nexus dvb card and Ultra and got similar voltage numbers.

This is an absolutely awesome receiver.

This is an absolutely awesome receiver. I after having it running for 3 days here are my comments.

Coming out of the box the first thing I noticed was the light compact size. Since this was my first attempt at FTA, I had a short learning curve setting the dish correctly. Once I was over that, starting the receiver was very easy. Within 6 or 7 clicks I was scanning T5 (called something else now). That took about 7 min. While I was waiting I read the manual and had a cup of coffee. I must say that the manual is fairly basic and is a little weak.

The sound and picture quality are great, and the Diseqc work great as well with the HH120 motor I purchased. I can currently tap 18 satellites. Just about an evening to program them all.

I hope that Fortec improves several things: The audio menu does not time out on its own (manual off only), no digital optical audio, no component video (RBG), better placement of the remote sensor (you have to be pointed right at the receiver), Better labeling of the remote and a selector for the clock (12/24) would be nice.

I have had the same issues other did with HD channels, but a quick reboot fixes that.

All in all I love my new toy. Now how to explain to my wife that I want to put a second dish up.

Thanks to Sadoun.Com for introducing me to this great hobby.

One thing I found out when you hit an HDTV channel and it locks up you don't have to turn receiver off and on. The receiver let's you go to menu then you can edit transponder and delete the HDTV channel, then exit menu and back to normal.

Bad Timepiece

My 24hour clock, which is easy to see and right up front as someone said, loses 5 minutes every day. I hope the rest of the receiver does a better job than the clock. Is there a way to adjust the clock ( other than resetting the correct time ) ?

G0

The problem I'm having with the Ultra concerns setting up G0 Cband and Ku band. The receiver lists both. I have used the advanced scan to get the outdoor channel east & west on the "C" side, and the powerscan on the Ku side to get all the others. The problem is when I view the outdoor channel and then switch to the other channels, there is no signal, and the same the other way around. Then I have to mess around with all the antenna settings to get them back. Sometimes if I turn the LNB power off and back on it works (until the next time), other times I change the LNB type or turn on the DiSEqC switch and this works.

I thought that the DiSEqC switch took care of the C/Ku switching. I guess I'm very confused.

If anyone could step me through this, I would be grateful. I am slaving the Ultra off a 4DTV using 2 HF splitters and a DiCEqc switch.

How does it scan both polarities at the same time if you need the BUD to change the polarity. I notice that if you power scan and select both polarities, you get duplication.

Re: blind search

Since the receiver is slaved, polarities are controlled by your Bud receiver. When you select both polarity, the DVB will first scan one polarity, once it's done it will scan the other. It just scans whatever source you feed to it, therefore it actually scan the same polarity twice.
You need to change polarity using your Bud receiver.

Sorry for reviving an old thread.

Sadoun one feature I would love to see is when scanning channels to be able to skip if it is taking too long. For example I did a blind search and on it found frequency 12000V/2100sr. Most channels will scan pretty fast, but lets say this one is taking forever (this just happened to me - I was waiting 4 minutes while it was trying to lock on channels on that freq/sr).

If I could hit right arrow so it can just skip nd move on to next, that would be awesome.

I don't know if this is even feasible, but maybe worth mentioning to fortec guys to consider in next firmware update.

Thanks

Yes cool idea. I am not sure why it took your receiver so long on one TP. How much was the signal quality for that TP? If the quality was low, that might have caused the delay.

Latest Lifetime ULTRA receivers have the remote control IR sensor raised to the middle of the front panel of the receiver. Thus, reception of RC signal is much better now. Also the remote control has a more traditional layout than its predecessor.

I think something was wrong with that carrier. I usaually don't have any problems with IA6, but tonight there was a signal that had SR 2170 and it just wouldn't lock in. Actually I had to exit and go to tp list and delete it and then scan for channels.

My signal and quality were fine. TS reader locked in on it but it wasn't able to read PAT table.

Only other times it would take a while is when you scan a satellite that has data signals like direcway and 30000SR, but that takes maybe 30 some seconds to go over it.

I'm noticing the same thing.... long delay as it power scans.
Makes it a pain to scan around. Seem to spend more time scanning than watching channels. Or so it seems

Really? post a pic I'd like to see what it looks like.

Actually it might be a good idea to offer spares for sale, as it is an integral part of having the Fortec work - can't operate without a remote (ask me how I know when attempting to dial in the sat on the roof with small TV & the receiver, and remote is back in TV room ops: )

If the remote were to crap out I'd be DOA with no other options as it stands...

We have spares for sale. Check item # 7 here: http://sadoun.com/Sat/Order/Remotes.htm

I will post a picture for the new remote shortly. Old/new remotes are compatible with each others.

In a few weeks/months Fortec Star will introduce a new remote that will work with any and every Fortec receiver model they make/ or made. Basically a "one for all fortec models" remote. So don't panic
