Speculation

It looks like in the next six months, I will be selling my house and moving. i probably won't be able to move my BUD, but I don't want to give up my sat hobby. Several questions come to mind.

Can I use a motorized Ku band disk with my Mercury II and my Motorola DSR 922? I know I will lose the C-band.

What is the smallest C/Ku disk I can use to receive all FTA feeds and possibly 4DTV?

Any and all recommendations will be greatly appreciated.

The "receive all" part of your request is the tough part. Some will tell you that a well tuned 6 foot dish will do this, but most experienced people will tell you that a 6 foot dish will have problems on some (many) sats due to conflicting signals/rejection. My opinion would be a minimum of 7.5ft finely tuned dish - however even there you may run into problems. Of course, to get EVERY available FTA signal, you'd probably need a monstrous dish.. but you're a reasonable person with reasonable expectations (I assume).

Remember too, the larger the dish, more difficult it becomes to become finely tuned enough to pickup those KU signals. I'd rather go with a larger BUD and a reasonable sized ku-dish to get the best reception if I had a choice.

If you are shooting for ku only then I would recommend a 100cm dish for the FTA and 4 dtv ku feeds. as far as c band side I wouldn't go any smaller than a 8.5' dish. and yes the mercury will move a ku dish.
