DB9 - DB9 (Female to Female) Straight Through Serial Cable

Is the "straight through" serial cable needed for the Lifetime receiver available through Sadouns? Thanks!

Not sure if Sadoun carries the straight-thru one, but you can get it at Radio Shack.

The straight through serial cable is just an ordinary serial cable you can find at any electronics store. It should have 9 pins holes an each end. It is refered to as a DB9 female x DB9 female. If you already have a male x female you can get a gender changer, then you can use the same cable for both. Do NOT get the serial NUL modem cable.

I got the one from RadioShack... Fit perfectly on both ends. Only problem that is really annoying me is that the programs are not recognizing the reciever!!!! Says the same thing with cable connected or disconnected. I have the DVB 786v3 receiver. Anyone have any suggestions?

"Fitting" properly doesn't mean anything. You have to make sure you don't have a null modem cable, which will also "fit".
If you have a VOM, check for continuity between pin 2 and pin 3 at each end of the cable. The straight through cable has 2----2 and 3----3 , while the null modem cable has 2------3 and 3------2 . Odds are that you have a null modem cable.

The DVB 786v3, uses a "NUL Modem" cable, not the "strait through" serial cable that the Lifetime uses.

dtsexpert, johnewhite, thanks for the info!

786 model uses Null cable.
Lifetime uses straight thru.
If you have both, I recommend to get a straigh-thru and a Null adapter which you can get both at RS. As I remember, the Null adapter costs $5 or arround that.
