One satellite, two-room reception, please help

I installled a FortecStar 5900 (80cm dish) a few months ago for my Mom in her room but now my Dad wants to watch in HIS room independently! I'm talking about 1 TV program and 1 radio station via AMC4.

What should I install? Dual LNBS and a second receiver or what?

Please, help to keep peace between my Dad and my Mom!

Solution 1: (Works only if TV station and radio station are the same polarity)

Just add a second receiver.

If they will always looking at the same satellite, you could just take the IF output of your mom's receiver and use it to feed the receiver in your father's room. That would save you having to replace the LNB with a dual-feed, and an additional run of cable into the house.

(Of course, your mom would not be able to turn her receiver off since it would kill the feed to your father's room)

Solution 2: Different polarities or IF ranges

Dual-feed LNB and a second receiver.

A dual-lnb would simply replace the one you have with one that provides two coax connections. You're mom and dad could sit on separate IF ranges and polarities and not interfere with each other.

Thanks for your suggestions, Al! I think a second receiver and a second LNB would serve better although I don't want to climb on the roof to install the dual LNB.

Do I need the same model of the receiver (FS-5900 is discontinued) should call SADOUN and ask that question?

You dont need the same receiver, any FTA receiver will do. Personally, for 2 specific channels, I'd buy the cheapest thing I could find. However, you might want to consider looking around for that same model (or something very similar) if you think that Mom and Dad may have difficulties dealing with "new technology" that differs in operation from their old receiver.

I agree. Keep it simple. It doesn't sound like you need Dolby AC3 or a lot of scanning capability, so a basic receiver is all you need.

Here is a question: If my Mom wants to watch TV and Dad listen to the radio... ? Would this work, or not? Remember, they get the TV and radio from the same satelllite.

That will work if they are both channels on the same polarity. If they are both Horizontal, or both Vertical, then you're fine.

I'm not sure what "polarity" is. How to find out if the chanels are on the same polarity? What I know is that my Mom switches from the TV chanel to the radio with just one button on the receiver. Does this mean that they are on the same polarity? I'm ignorant about this, so please help!

Check the lyngsat.com site. Look for H for horizontal or V for vertical.

Look for your stations, then check the left column. There is a number, followed by an H or V and then TP#. If you are having troubles reading it, maybe indicate which stations you are trying to receive and someone else can read the chart for you.

An easy way to see which polarity your channel is on is to simply select the "INFO" button on your remote when she is watching that channel. It will tell you if it is on an H or V. Then select the radio station and see if it is the same.

I selected the info button and after a while I message "no EPG" apeared. I checked other channels ( including radio) and the same. I guess, it is an Electronic Program Guide. But there is nothing like that on my FS-5900. Am I missing something?

I also looked at the back of the receiver where I may possibly connect a second receiver, as someone suggested, but there is no IF output, only RF output. I'm totally lost......!

I suppose this problem solved itself a few weeks ago, but a multiple in and out switch can feed two receivers from one line. I have used a 34 switch for receivers in several rooms from several antennas. Two receivers from one dish should be a smaller and cheaper switch.
