Mercury II software versions

Hi-

I recently purchased a Mercury II from Sadoun. It arrived and works, but I see the software is 1.06

The most recent release is 1.54. Is there an advantage in downloading the latest version? I am a little annoyed that the receiver must be at least a year old and on the shelf since the build date of the software was Feb 2006.

I am quite able to download and install the updated code, but I am hesitating because of the warranty issues.

I also would not like to lose the use of the receiver for the time it takes to send it back to Saodoun or the Fortec CA office.

Any advice you could give would be appreciated.

I've updated my Ultra firmware a couple times since the initial release.
No problems at all. Only the 1st update did something (fixed USALS motor issues), the 2nd one did nothing for me at all.

With that said,

If it's working OK for you as it is, leave it be. If you're not having any issues, let the warrenty continue an go on as is.
I'll let someone else with a Mercury II chime in if the update fixed anything on their receivers.

I think that they had some issues with the latest software for the Mercury so I would do some checking arround before I updated it.

Funny- thats what Fortec just said too. I will let it alone. I was hoping for updated sats, but I can edit those manually.

All told, I'm very pleased with this receiver.

Vitruvius will become famous soon enough
check forums for updating software info

After I had my Mercury for a few months, I updated the software and it helped fix some things. Then after a few more months I saw there was a newer version. I installed that one, and it didn't work at all for me, so I had to reinstall the previous version which I am using now with great success. Luckily I saved the previous version software and the Fortec site did not keep it posted. If you would like it, I can email it to you.

Regards, Vitruvius

I purchased my Fortec Star Mercury II in March 2007 and it also shipped with the v1.06 software.

The only thing that I have found with v1.06 that annoys me, is sometime when scanning, the signal meter registers that there is no signal, when there is signal.

I read about that glitch in these forums, dismissed the glitch as a glitch, and now that doesn't bother me any longer.

I've thought about upgrading to one of the newer versions of the software, but I also have the same issues of messing up and having to send the unit back to Fortec Star. That I do not want to do.
