Re: FS LifeTime ULTRA BLIND SEARCH FTA MPEG2 DVB receiver
All,
With this kind of features, what else we should ask more....:-)
All in one. I am glad Fortec is the first company to introduce such product in N.America
I am sure the Ultra model will be another success for Forect as well as your company, Jamal.

How come this is not mentioned on the Fortecstar website?
I am inclined to beleive this is the same hardware as a normal Lifetime, but with different firmware....

What is "Blind Search"
What is "Blind Search" ? Why would I want it? Is it a small feature or a major 'can't do with out this' feature? :?:

Re: What is "Blind Search"
The "Blind Search" is a feature which you don't need to specify freq range or symbol rate to find channels. Using this feature, the receiver will find all channels available for you automatically. Nice one for those who interested in finding new feeds. Years ago, in order to find new feeds, one needs to use a Spectrum analyzer which costs few thoundsand of dollar. Now, no need to spend that much $ for finding new feeds.

That is not true. A BLIND SEARCH receiver uses a special tuner and software. Most likely this new receiver will have completely different hardware/software than current model.

Sadoun,
I just "bit the bullet" and pre-ordered this beast. I am looking forward to find out as much about it as possible befor it starts shipping. Please keeps us informed if you hear any new exciting details about it.
I have a feeling this might be the best "blind search" receiver available to us regular consumers out there.
Do you think it will scan and lock in on 4:2:2 signals? I know I can't watch it on the receiver, but I could use the information (frequency and SR) to watch it on my 1030A.
Thanks for great service so far.

I emailed Sadoun a few weeks ago about what would be a good receiver for someone new working with a slight learning disability. Would this be a better set up for me? My fear of purchasing is getting real confused with all the different settings and giving up.
What my main desire for one is scanning different frequencies, seeing what I can find and if something looks interesting stay there for a while.. Also, how difficult will this thing be to set up. I also am interested in the complete system. thanks

Re: Newbie
Rid0617,
I recommend the Fortec brand. 786v3, Lifetime or Ultra will be good. They are not complicated to operate. Don't fell discourage, once you get the system, let us know. We will walk you thru step by step of how to set it up. Does it make you feel better...:-)
I have both 786v3 and Lifetime, like them both. If you start from scratch, I recommend to pre-order to Ultra since it has the "blind search" feature, plus you get free shipping.

Thank you
As you see I have been reading this forum for a while. Just didn't want to spend a good part of disability check on a new hobby that I would end up not understanding. Have set my own directv and skyangel disk up but you don't program in bauds, transponders, etc into it. Probably will make the jump in a few days and hope for the best. Thank you again.

Re: Thank you
Rid0617,
How about this: I promise to walk you thru the steps of setting them up pesonally. I'll not give up until you get the channels what you want. The only tricky thing is to install the dish. It'll be a bit more difficult than DirectTv since Ku signal is weaker than DTV one, but it's doable. Let's know what kind of program you are interested in. Do you plan to put up a fix dish or motorized one? One thing I need you to know is that some channels are up there FTA for good while the others come and go. If you like watching ethnic channels from other countries, then nothing to worry about. If you are looking for channels like HBO....then DVB is not a good investment here...:-)
Please don't feel offended. I just want to make sure you know this in advance. There are still lot of insteresting stuff up on the sky. Network channels are also availabe as well on G10R (Fox, UPN....), but there are no gauratee that there are FTA for good. Feel free to post your questions/concerns here.

Thank you, thank you
With a promise like that I can't lose. This might be long but I'll try not to. My main interest is foreign stations because I enjoy foreign commercials. Am a former ham radio operator but have tired of the constant contests and less actual getting to know people and their cultures.
So, since I have an interest in far away signals, I've gotten interested in this hobby. No attempts to receive things like HBO, etc because I have that on my directv system. Have a skyangel system for spiritual purposes.
Am also interested in distant local stations in US. I was thinking about ordering the motor so I can search other satellites but if that makes installation that much more of a bear, figured I could get out with my handy compass after I wore our one satellite and move to the next.
Depending on your advise regarding a motor, I will preorder the ULTRA when Sadoun offers the package deal Monday according to his post. I like it doing the work searching I'm unable to understand. What I'm working with is I went from an Asst Chief of Police with 2 degrees to a person that is slow learning thanks to a blood clot disolved in my brain. Add 5 heart attacks to the mix and at 51 I'm home bound so foreign tv is my vacations. Have been watching internation channels on internet but getting to be too many sites with servers crowded or links bad.
Thank you again for your kind offer and time.
Ron

Re: Thank you, thank you
Rid0617,
Do not worry too much for now. Lot of great folks here who will help you besides me. I know you might have lot of questions on this hobby since you are new. Everyone was once a newbie...:-)
You like ham radio, this hobby is for you. How about you can watch raw sports feed which you can listen to commentators talking weird stuff during the commercial break...:-), lots of interesting channels/feeds up there. For now, try to find a right spot where you have a clear view. If possible, installing the dish on your backyard is the best since it's easy to access.
For now, I think you just go for a fix dish aiming at Telstar 5 for ethnic channels. Check out the link below of the list of channels on T5:
http://www.lyngsat.com/t5.shtml
If you like this hobby, you can get a motor mount later to move the dish.
We are here to help each other. I am so addicted to this hobby. Where do you live? If you live in N.California (Bay Area), let me know. I am more than willing to come over to help you out, no charge off course...:-), few beers are cool for me...:-)
Regards,
Michael

Going to bite the bullet and order that $263 package (life time ultra). I really think since I don't know what I'm doing the receiver that does the work for me will be the winner. Cannot beat the free shipping offer either. So, keep ya'll posted. Now all I got to do is wait till he ships them out.

quick question
Just noticed on specs that it needs a decoder to get audio. since I am totally starting from scratch, does any audio come out of the tv itself like a directv receiver or do i need to purchase something extra to receive audio? thanks.

Hi, Don't need anything extra to get audio on FTA, except maybe for some of the PBS stations on AMC3, they are | |
