connot find Telstar 5,

Hi,
I got the fortec 786v3 from sadoun.com
I was trying to install it for the past few days.
I'm in Rolla, MO zip65401
latitude 37.95, longitude 91.76
using the calculater on sadoun.com I got the following for telstar 5
Elevation 45.7, Azimuth 188.5, skew 6.7
magnetic deviation -4
the transporder is set to tp25 12152
How ever I could not get a quality signal,
the signal strength is at 70% but i'm sure that just plain noise.
the LNB is universal.
I was thinking that the LNB does not work,
any Ideas please???

Check the LO setting to make sure you set"
Low: 9750
High: 10600

also remember the wavelenght for kU band is very small, about 1 inch, so you need to be very exact when aligning your dish. it took me several days before i could get mine to work until i tried this method. this is what i did, i took my reciever and tv outside so i didnt have to keep running inside to see if it worked, anyway i set my dish elevation to the number i figured, i turned the tv on and moved the dish very little (wait a few seconds to see if anything happend), i keep on doing that till i got it

thanks,

One more question...How accurate in the angle marking on the dish for elevation.
I cannot take the TV outside, its too big, but i managed to see the screen trhough the window using a mirror. I will try again. any more suggestion??

It depends on the brand of dish -- I've seen some that are bang on and others that are way off; your best bet is to preset the elevation for your area and sweep the azimuth slowly as ctg101 advises - this is the key; very tiny moves and wait a second or two for the receiver to attempt to lock the signal. Another important thing is to make sure the mast is perfectly level in all four directions - if not it will throw off the elevation making it next to impossible to find signal. Another thing that will affect signal is the LNB focal length from the dish - try moving the LNB forwards and then backwards in the holder - I think for Fortec dishes the LNB must be as far back as possible, unlike Winegard dishes where the LNB is about midpoint.

Keep trying and you will eventually succeed.

some one please help me!!!
I've been trying for a week.
I checked three or four transporders but I could not get a signal higher than 70%. quality is zero.

How sensitive is polarization tilt. it is 6.7 positive (clockwise) for me but the markings are every 5 degrees. same with elevation, the markings are every five degrees and I have to set it at 45.7
I tried the signal meter I have but it was leading me to the west and I guess thats the bird at 101west.
there is an overhead power line going north to south behind my apartment which is about 100-150 feets away to the east of the dish. could it affect the signal?? I was trying to move it very slowly and waiting in between for few seconds.

Please Help

Power lines will not affect signal; at least not enough to worry about. polarization tilt is not very crucial -- 5 degrees won't show any difference -- 45 degrees - yes. Elevation is much more important and sensitive - so is azimuth.

Its challenging - keep trying...

kat

BTW- those el cheapo signal meters won't lock onto Telstar 5 - take a little TV and the receiver outside to the dish while aligning it.
