Mercury II - Duplicate channel numbers!
In the process of adding satellite listings to my receiver, saving/restoring the channels, and/or updating the software, I now have a bunch of channels with duplicate numbers.
Like I have 77 channels which are numbered Channel 1
44 channel 2's
24 channel 3's
etc...
I would prefer they were all numbered with a unique number like 1, 2, 3, 4, etc.
Anyone know what to do about this?

Are you sure that these are actual duplicate channels or just different channels with that name?
This is just a guess, but it sounds like you told it to sort channels alphabetically. Ie I have dozens of channels named channe 1, channel 2, etc, and if I did an alphabetic sort, it would find all those from different satellites and transponders. Ie I'm guessing that many of your various Channel 1 channels are not the same channel at all, but are from different transponders on different satellites. You probably have some duplication if you've scanned that sat in multiple times, but I'm guessing that you probably have several dozen Channel 1 examples that are different.
Just a guess.
I'd go into the channel manager and tell it to sort by sat, then tell it to sort by transponder freq, etc.

After updating your receiver with new version, you have to reset the receiver to factory default, then you may start over with scanning channels. In the future you may want to backup your channel and satellites data by going to Backup data option. (channel manager?)

I did this and the channel numbering worked like it should. 1, 2, 3, 4, etc. No duplicate channel numbers.
Thanks!

Anyone know how to get a total channel count? I too have multiple channel 1's and so on which is no big deal to me but I have yet to figure out how to find total channel count in the receiver.

What I do is click on OK, then you get the channel list and there are 10 listings per page.
So I use left/right to go to first page, then use right (I think) and count how many pages, then multiply by 10 (per page).

Would be nice to have a total count like the Platinum and every other receiver I have had does.

I think I tried that. It numbers the channels wierd. I will be home tonight and try that again. I assumed if I chose a sat it would give me a count for that sat and all would be for the receiver but I have yet to figure out it's numbering system.

all is for all the sats it lists the channels as they have been scanned in 1st to last.

Yes but did not give me a channel count. Gave me the assigned channel numbers. As in my final few were like 1516, 1517, 1518 then 4111. Kinda skipped over a few there and I doubt (but I may have) I have 1500 channels in that receiver. Maybe 850 - 1000

I found the cause of duplicate channel numbers in the Mercury II...
To fix this, go to Menu/System Setup/Others
Then set SID to Off.

thanks
Bill, Thanks, I'll try that. After resetting my dish a 4th time... the wind or rain in a thunder storm knocked my motor off course, I found that I had this problem of multiple same channel numbers. It is annoying... and your fix will be greatly appreciated. I have only one small dish and counted only 215 free stations, so Elge's 1500 stations sounds amazing...
Regards

Well I am running 3 dishes at the current time with a 4th one scheduled for install. One sat alone has over 125 channels (40.5 circular C Band). I know 97 also has roughly as many channels FTA on KU. Your count of 215 FTA Ku channels sounds about right then stir into the mix all C Band from 50 to 148 & the circualr C Band from 40.5 and you are getting to where I am in channel count for DVB MPEG2 FTA. I am also running a DSR922 so I have additional channels from it along with a OTA HD receiver. Once i have the other dish up I am going to work on making both it and the one pointed at 40.5 steerable which will add even more channels.
I honestly have to many channels. Bill listed some channels on 121 that I did not think I had. When I got home and checked the sat I already had those channels just forgot all about them.
