Ku questions

I made the addition of Ku over the weekend. Everything is working well and I can pick up all of the satellites that are designated Ku in the satellite menu. I am having problem getting satellites that are both C and Ku band that don't have a separate menu listing for C and Ku. Some of you more experienced people please let me in on the secret.

Also what does the "+" sign next to a satellite in the menu mean?

I am thoroughly enjoying my new Mercury II receiver. My only complaint is the manual was written for people who already know what they are doing. A good tutorial on FTA and the Mercury II especially would be greatly appreciated.

Any other info any of you can supply will be appreciated.

Thanks,

The problem is that you can't set up a "satellite" as both C and Ku in these Fortec receivers. For satellites that have both bands, you need to define a second satellite. For example, I have an AMC3-C satellite AND and AMC3-Ku satellite defined, one with the 5150 LO freq and the other with the 10750 LO freq. This is a bit of an annoyance to have to switch satellites when really staying on the same satellite, but it's not too bad. The problem I had with my first Fortec (Lifetime) was that I ran out of memory. Ie the receiver had a limit to the number of satellites you could define, so I couldn't define all the sats I could see, so I had a generic sat defined that I could use for a couple sats. However the Ultra and the Mercury have more memory, so that doesn't seem to be a problem on the newer receivers.
But the secret is that you have to rename/create new satellites to get both C and Ku.

I created a new topic here called "Mercury II - Adding sat names for C/Ku".

This explains how to add satellite names for the Mercury II and why you need to do this.
