Help with dish size

I just bought the Fortec Lifetime receiver and want to know will the standard dish that comes with this receiver (90 cm) be able to pick up all the Free To Air ku band satellites in the US (40W thru 160W) or will I need a bigger size? I live in North Carolina.

Also I saw some big 6 and 8 foot dishes on the web site. Are these C band dishes? I did not know Ku band required these bigger sizes. If I bought the 6 or 8 foot dish what satellites would I be able to receive that the smaller dish (90 cm) doesn't?

Thanks,
CE

Dish Size

The 90 cm dish is only for KU band reception. 6 to 8 feet dishes are for C-Band reception. With these big dishes, you will be able to pick all C-band DVB channels or Analog/Digicipher 2 channels if you add a analog/4DTV receiver. Check Lyngsat.com for satellites and channels. C-Band channels have 4 digits frequencies. If you want to receive atlantic Satellites you'll need a 1 meter dish. But for FTA KU US Satellites, 90 cm is OK.

Hi etlam,

Thanks for the info. I followed your linked to your website. Excellent, user friendly site!!! Are you planning on putting a US version of the dish sizes needed to catch the satellies?

A few other questions:

1. Could you clarify what you mean by the "Atlantic" satellites?

2. Also, how often do the FTA channels become encrypted OR change satellites or transponders?

Thanks,
Keep up the good work

Check out the link below:
http://www.lyngsat.com/atlantic.shtml
If you live in the Eastern of the US or Canada, you might get as far as Atlantic Bird 1 @ 12W

2. Also, how often do the FTA channels become encrypted OR change satellites or transponders?
Noone really knows. Some of them are there for temp while the others stay for long time.
For example: the ethnic channels which are financially supported by governments are usually stay FTA for long time.

Thanks,
Keep up the good work
