Comparing Fortec Star and Pansat 330a
My first digital receiver was a Fortec Star 786 and love it and its simplicity. but I was looking to receive the AC3 pbs channels, so I bought a Panasta 330 because I read in many places in the internet that is one of the best receivers. After installing the Pansat 330, I relized that it's a poor receiver on the picture quality, the Pansat 330A takes a long time to recognize the signal and display a higher quality signal while the fortec is quicker and have higher quality. The menus for the PaNSAT ARE A PAIN IN THE NECK and the text editor is poor. Fortec Star give more organization to menus and very simple. The remote for Pansat 330 is low quality and not very practical. the only better thing Pansat is good at is better digital sound and is faster when seraching satellites. Also Fortec Star receiver is small and compact receiver while the Pansat 330A is 2 heavier and take twice space.
Anyway, after owning the Pansat 330A for a week I am going to sel it on ebay or if anyone intersted, just write me at:

For AC3 sound you should consider the Fortec Star LifeTime receiver. It is one of the most sensitive receivers in the market.
Users of Pansat 330A have not used a Fortec receiver so they don't know any different. Once they try both, like you did, the Fortec Star receiver wins hands down. Plus the Fortec Star receivers are much more affordable.
BTW, dtsexpert uses both the Fortec Star LifeTime receiver and the DVB-786v3, so he can tell you the differences.

Re: Comparing Fortec Star and Pansat 330a
Tanjiabdou,
As I remember, Fortec brand was introduced in N.America market 2 years ago. It has proven one of best nowadays. At the begining, I remember there are some doubt from users about Fortec, that's understanable since Fortec was not as well-known as other brands.
I love both of my 786v3 and Lifetime. I would not trade them for any "expensive" ones. If you are looking for AC3 output, I highly recommend the Lifetime. Since you have the 786v3, you know how fast it is. The Lifetime is even faster. When changing channels, the new one comes up immediately, less than 1/2 sec.
The AC3 output works just fine. Very nice audio from PBS on AMC3.
Make it short, Fortec just rocks. If you have any question about the Lifetime, let me know. I'll try to provide you the info as much as I can.
Can't go wrong with Fortec.
Michael

dtsexpert, I'm looking to get the 5900 but I have some questions first. I posted in another Topic and got no reply. Maybe you can help me or tell me who can. Thanks. Here are my questions.
Will the Fortec 5900 work for Dish and Bev? What is the Nagravision embedded slot for? Can I take my Bev and Dish subbed cards and put them into the Nagravision slot and receive the channels I am subscribed to? I'm looking to pick up nimiq 82 and 91. Echostar 110, and 148. Can I use a DiscEq 4 switch to acheive this? Is this the only or the best receiver for what I wish to do?

As I know, DN and BV don't allow users to use any third party receiver, eventhough the third party receiver receiver such as the Fortec 5900 might work with DN/BV smart card.
In N.America, there are other sat providers such as Globecast using Nagravision encryption system to secure their services, therefor users might use recievers which accept CAM for subcription. Again, some sat providers allow users to use third party receivers while the other don't. One must contact sat providers to see if they allow subcribers to use third party hardware.
Back to your question about the switch, the answer is Yes, you can use a Diseqc 4x1 to switch up to 4 lnbfs.

Thanks DTS. Just what I wanted to know. So do you think this would be better for me than the Lifetime receiver?

If you don't plan to sub anything, then Lifetime is a way to go. Even if you plan to sub, but the sat provider requires to use their reciever, any receiver accepts CAM won't be good either.
I highly recommend the Lifetime model.
