Fortec 30" Dish with 81% signal 0% quality

Hi Folks,
I have problem with my setup not getting any quality.

I have setup BEV(BellExpressVu) in past and it was a breeze.
This is my first time to setup an FTA dish.
Didn't think would be so hard. :?
my equipment is:
Fortec Star 30" dish
Ariza TP1000 receiver
DishNetwork single lnbf

location London,Ontario
Azimuth 211.1 (after magnetic declination adjustment)
Elevation 37.9

Looking for Telstar 5 on TP15 11898 2000

Signal is 83,, Quality 0

Have used a basic needle signal finder and compass to locate satelite.
Using RG6 50 feet run direct from lnbf to receiver.

lnbf seems fine.
power levels at lnbf end within 14-18volts.
receiver set to Telstar 5
Universal lnbf: OFF
LO : 10750
22k: OFF

Could my problems be:
  • Simpy wrong satellite?
    Hardware problem?
    Software settings wrong?
I have spent a few hours very slowly lining up the dish but that
quality is just no happening.

Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

cheers

1. Check out the lnbf to make sure it is Ku linear. Are you using DishNetwork circular lnbf? If so, it won't work.
2. Skew is important. Check it out to make sure you set it correctly.

T5 Installation

You said 11898 2000 in your posting. Make sure 11898 V and symbol rate is 20000 not 2000. Maybe you dropped a zero on your post but that would make a "BIG" difference. :P Good luck.

dtsexpert - thank you for the quick reply.

The brand of lnb is Dish Network Canada BEV. I have a single and a dual
These are from their Anik E2 days before they went and changed everyones lnb's.

The dual is model BSCH83P81.
I read reply by Bobkat in the following forum that this model is OK
http://sadoun.com/Forum/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=874.

Not sure what to do next?
I bet that once figure this out I will feel really dumb somewhere along the way.

aar5ac - thank you for noticing my missing zero.
To make sure I didn't make same error on the receiver I have checked the settings and they are 11898 V 20000 .
Wished you were right, but settings are good. Must be something else.

Yeah, in early days BV actually uses linear...:-)
I have 2 of the "DishNet" linear lnbfs, they work just fine.
Double check the skew. You can also try other active transponders on T5.
I am not familiar with your receiver, so I don't know how sesitive the tuner is. I hope you will find T5 soon.
