Thumbs up I Love my Mercury II and Thanks!

As you can probably tell from all of my questions, I just bought a Mercury II.

Thanks for the answers to my questions.

I am very happy with my Mercury II. So far it is software "bug free" and everything I use in the menu's works just fine.

The "power search" is fantastic! All I do is find the satellite and save the position, then hit the Power Search button. Then the Mercury II goes to work searching for TP frequencies. And it finds them! It even finds frequencies which are not listed on Lyngsat.com or Satcodx.com. Then after finding the frequencies, it automatically goes on to find all the channels on each TP.

This is nice to say the least, especially since with my old mpeg receiver, I had to manually enter each and every frequency!

But I am not done with my praise of this receiver yet...

I bought a new stereo receiver yesterday which has an optical S/PDIF connection for the Dolby pass through, and it works! Channels which had no audio before with my old receiver now have sound via the optical cable and my stereo receiver. Yeaaaa!

Years ago I sent Fortec Star an email "wish list" for features I (and everyone else) would like to have on our mpeg receivers. They quickly replied and said they would forward my email to their product development department. Well they have done what we requested. They have listened to their customers.

So three cheers for Fortec Star! This is a company which listens to their customers, something which seems to be uncommon these days.

Well you've had better luck with that optical output than I have. I've been using my Fortec Lifetime and Fortec Ultra for years for AC3 channels using the coaxial SPDIF output going to my Soundblaster Extigys to decode the AC3. However with this darn Mercury thing, the Extigys cannot decode the AC3, whether I run the optical directly into the Extigy or if I use an optical to coaxial converter. The optical output does work with a newer stereo with optical input.

I've emailed Fortec, but they insist that they do nothing but pass through the AC3, even though it is obvious that there is some difference between the signal that comes out of the Mercury compared to that which comes out of the Lifetime and Ultra on the same sat channel.

Anyway, I'm not happy with the optical output of the Mercury.

Hi Bill

Good to see you back here. I remember I sold you a receiver 5 years ago. Was it the Satcruiser 401 Analog/Digital receiver?

You maybe the wrong Bill, but I think it was you.

It is me! Quite a difference between my old receiver and the Mercury II!

Very good receiver. The only thing I do not like about it is that downloaded channel list never worked as it was saved. Since I use this receiver a lot, I programmed one with the channels and favorites I needed and uploaded the channel list to my computer. When I download that list to the receiver, the favorites are mixed up and channels are unsorted. I tried different times but the same.
