Anoter satellite scanning question

Having not been at this too long, I have a question.

When one is looking for wild feeds, how do you scan the satellite? Does one do a blind scan to find active transponders, and then a satellite scan?

Will doing this produce lots of duplicate channels in your receiver?

Thanks for being patient with a newbie.

It will scan duplicate channels or at least it does on my 2 receivers. What I do is delete everything on the satelite and start fresh with a blind scan. Another options is just scan transponders.

on some receivers it will duplicate channels on others it won't on the Mercury and ultra it don't but it does on the satworks.as previous poster suggested just delete all the channels on the sat you want to bind scan first and rescan.

I'm pretty sure that I've got LOTS of duplicate channels with my Ultra. I haven't checked the exact parameters, but I'm guessing that it probably depends on how stable the LNB is. Ie if my lnb is drifting, the receiver might think it's a different transponder, but if the transponder freq comes up the same, it doesn't give a duplicate. at least that's what I think I remember.

you are right Bill if the lnb is drifting it will set duplicate channels it sees it as different channels because of the different freq. my invacom quad is fairly stable so don't get to many dupicates.

Awesome.

I love to blind scan and see if I can find new feeds, wild feeds, new channels and stuff like that.

It's been raining here today, heavy at times and that is spoiling my satellite fun today! Kinda hard to find anything. I had a couple of channels where my signal was 70% but quality was like 20% and I was still seeing a stable picture!

Maybe next weekend will be better for blind scanning.

Thanks for the answers.
