CAM in the USA?

Hello,

Is there a good reason to purchase a CAM type receiver? I am looking to get one of the motorized Fortec systems next. What will the future trend be? Will these CAM receivers become more prevalent?
I live in California and currently have an FTA (T5) system (for Thai TV 8) ). I also have DirecTV and a UHF antenna for local network affiliate stations. I would like more foreign programming... similar to what is now available on Dish :? apparently. Although I kinda want to scan the birds too... Any info/comments would be appreciated. I have not seen much discussion on these decoder type receivers. So if anyone has one, how do you like it? What do you watch with it? What are the subscription fees? Thanks again.
