Newbie Question on Hardware Requirements

Hello!

I am an American but would like to be able to get some European and Middle Eastern TV programs. (Turkish in particular) I have noticed that some are FTA and some are encrypted. What steps do I need to go through to gain access to the encrypted channels? I've noticed that most of the low end receivers here don't support things like card slots; only the higher end models do. I'm not trying to be a satellite pirate, I would be willing to pay if they are willing to sell me the stations.

I am looking for recommendations on what hardware to buy, including dish, receivers, etc. I would like to purchase a complete soup to nuts solution, and I would like the ability to surf more than just one satellite. Could anyone give me a shopping list of what I need to get? Please explain your recommendations so that I may learn more. I have read many of the postings on this forum, but they deal mostly with just the FTA reception, and the channel choice seems somewhat limited. Any ideas? or even links to places that I might learn more about it?

Thank you!

Very easy!!
Find out who the "encrypted" programming carrier is, give'em a call and pay.

cam cards

I am new myself but I have read in many places that what you need to do is get a card reader that is supported by the service you want to get. The problem is that most of these card readers are very expencive and most sat services don't support them because they want to sell you their system.
So it's very hard to do what you want to do.
Hit and miss at best.
