Installation issues...Please Help?

I'd like to start by saying if there is someone here who lives on the Mississippi Gulf Coast Who can help please email me at DBitowf@gmail.com.

Hello, Ok i know this has probably been asked several times but... I'm having major issues. True South. I'm using 180 exactly because Biloxi,MS is right in between 0 and 1 on the chart My Latitude is 30.4 (set as close as i can on the motor) and I Set the Declination of the dish to about 23-24 as the chart says it is 7degrees. And i receive Nothing.... There are no major trees or buildings in my line of sight as far as i can tell by the guide i should be right on. But something is off. I've even tried to start off by locating the SAT closest to my longitute which i think is AMC3 (87 degrees) and i can not even locate this by playing with the dish. If I try to find one i get a weak 19 - 36 % IA5, or a Strong 101 degree & 110 Degree Sat(s) but nothing else. I'm at a loss for what to do. Can someone please suggest something. I'm using the M-1 System bought from SADOUN.

Thanks,
Dennis

once you get your initial settings use the motor to move to the closest sat to your longitude. move the motor east and west on the pole to get best signal.remember slow small movements a 1/16th of a inch at a time allow 10 seconds for the receiver to see the change. adjust elevation up or down 1 degree at a time to get best signal. also make sure you are using a active transponder freq. check www.lyngsat.com
for freq.

In addition to what Rainman said, I would use a dish elevation of between 25 and 26 as a starting place, because the declination you should be using for your location is more like 4.5 degrees, not 7 degrees. I'm curious what chart said 7 degrees? Many charts will say 5 degrees for you latitude, but no chart should say 7 degrees unless you are at very high latitudes, and you should never use 7 as your declination unless your latitude is up around 55 degrees.
That being said, however, that dish elevation is just a starting point, and the fact that you're getting nothing makes me wonder if you're having the common problem of setting the motor angle with your latitude on the elevation side instead of the latitude side? Ie for your latitude, I would recommend using 31 degrees (instead of 30.4) on the motor side, and 59 on the elevation side.

Some of these Fortec dishes seem to be off by 5 degrees on the scale. Might try raising the dish elevation to 5 degrees higher than calculated.

One of the ways that I found my place on the "arc" is to loosen the bolts on the dish and move the motor/dish assembly all at once and also adjust the elevation. I tell the motor to go to AMC1 (101) and then after it stops I move everything to peak in on that signal i.e. KUIL 11706? After that, I will try like lets say PAS9 at 58. Almost always I can get it spot on or very, very close the 1st try. "Floating" the dish slowly instead of moving , stopping, and waiting works for me but YMMV.

Dennis:

If you haven't got things squared away in a week or so, let me know. I live in New Orleans and have to drive over to the coast one day soon to pick up an antique radio a friend is kindly passing on to me. May be able to make a side trip if you still need a hand.

Regards,
Bob
