Dish Size
Hi.. I'm thinking in buy a FTA system, but i was wondering what dish size should I get to receive NSS-806.... will the 31" dish be enough?? I'm in Minnesota, Latitude 44.8 Longitude 93.1
Also, would be worth it to buy a motorized system right away, or wait to see how it goes???
Thanks in Advance

the channels that you can receive from this sat are c band so you will need a 8.5 ft dish plus a lnbf that will do circular c band.

You tell by the frequency of the transponder:
4 digits = C-Band
5 digits = Ku-Band

Thanks bobkat.... i got it
now let me refrase my question... will the 31" dish be big enough to receive hispasat 3C and 3D?
i'm in Minnesota.... Latitude 44.8 Longitude 93.1
As they are different satellites with hispanic channels, i guess that i should get a motorized dish, but i'm not sure about the dish size
Thanks for the answers
Best Regards
Victor

Hello Victor
By the looks of your location, you're in the Twin Cities (same as me)
(44.7N 93.5W)
Yes you can get Hispasat but its tricky. The dish elevation is only about 11 so you need a REALLY good line of sight to the east.
It requires a little trickiness because most dishes have an elevation down to about 15 so what people have done is tilt the mast downward a little bit to give them the opportunity to get Hispasat.
But that does have the most Spanish programming on there. Here is a list of most of the KU programming we can get
http://www.global-cm.net/MPEGlistKuBandUS.html
Here is Hispasat. Its at 30 degrees west
http://www.global-cm.net/MPEGlistATL.html
yes the 31" dish will work. I have a 76cm motorized and can get Hispasat (barely). DOnt understand much (no habla espanol)

Thanks for the tip Iceberg.... I'm in Eagan and is good to know someone nearby who has this kind of installation....
Just to be clear... reading the documentation about how to align the motorized antenna they talk about aiming the antenna to the true south... but you are telling me that to get hispasat I need to face it east... should i first aim the antenna to the south and then the receiver will move it to the east??? or should i face the antenna to the east and besides Hispasat i will also get all the satellites in that arc?? actually i have better line of sight facing east than south....
now that i know what to get, i have to plan where to place it....
Thanks and sorry for that many questions
Victor

If you are working with a motorized, you always aim at true south, which for us is IA6 (Telstar 6) which is dead south. Once you get the motor and dish setup, then you can motor over to Hispasat. I didnt know you were going mototirzed. When I meant ot aim the dish east that was for a fixed dish

At present there are roughly 53 channels in Espanol on the Ku side of FTA. Ther are on just about every sat from 30 in the East to 123 in the West. I do not remember the number of radio channels. With the addition of M6 and a C Band system I believe the threshold is nearing 300 channels. I just set up a dish aligned on 40.5 and pulled in an additional 99 channels although I have not had time to sift through them as to what is what.
45 has about 22 channels available but requires a different lnb to receive from 40.5. At present I am limited in my view with my linear C Band dish much past 58 due to trees. When winter hits and the leaves have fallen I may be able to do better out in that direction. M5 at 116.8 is another good sat for C Band channels in Espanol.
At present with the FTA receiver I believe we currently have 250 or so canales en Espanol. If Spanish language channels are what you are seeking and you have the ability I would definitely install a big dish with C/Ku capabilities.

Hi... unfortunely i don't think that i can install a big antenna in my backyard...but if i can get 53 channels in Espaņol on the Ku side, is much better than any "spanish package" offered by cable companies....in any case, it is good to receive all the american channels too..... (as i speak spanish and english .. or at least i try to speak both)
I was looking at my surroundings and i think that to avoid trees i will install my antenna in the house's roof... will be that stable enough?? (don't really know if it is easier to get a really long pole and install the dish in top of it)... but for now i think it will be on the roof....
Thanks everybody for the help and the good advices...
c'ya

I have mine on the roof too. Shouldnt have any issues.
Setup shouldnt be too bad. With the fact that we have a true south, that makes it all the easier. Set up dish & motor and aim south. Fine tune and away we go

dont most cable companies offer maybe 5 stations in Spanish and Univsion & Telemundo are 2 of them?
On Galaxy 10, our local Univision, WUMN is on there

Also on IA6 there is Azteca 7 and Azteca 13 (very strong signals on those)

The American channels I refer to are Spanish language channels broadcast in the US. The Univision channels are a perfect example. On IA6 you have 3 Azteca channels. I get crossed up sometimes as to channels and band as I run both C and Ku along with a dedicated dish for 40.5.
If you can manage to get 30 where you are there is a host of channels on it. Other than that there is only 1 Telemundo channel and countless Univision and Telefuturo channels.
