NBC on AMC4 @ 101 Degrees?
I was looking at the satellites on lyngsat and saw that NBC is apparently available and in the clear on AMC4, but I can't find it. I've scanned and power-scanned to no avail.
I'm using the Mercury 2 with a 31" dish and Universal LNB by Fortec. I figure it's one of those situations where I need something other than what I have to see it, but I thought I'd check.

these are c band signal you will need at least a 6 ft dish and a cband lnbf to get these channels.

There are 2 sets of NBC's
AMC4 you need a C-BAnd dish, I'll say at least 8 feet. I have the 6 footer and its a bugger to bring them in
AMC1 has some on KU but they are 4:2:2 which means you need a PC card. Regular boxes can't pick up 4:2:2 (only 4:2:0 stuff)

Aha! So I read the chart wrong, and these are C Band channels. Well I'm not done scanning all the satellites yet (I hit a lot of them!) so maybe I'll run across an NBC affiliate somewhere along the way. There sure are a lot of spooky looking people on FTA. I'm having a blast playing with this. It's like TV from BIzarro World
Thanks!

You can get a 4:2:2 set top box. They are made by QualiTV. A HD 4:2:2 capable receiver runs around $650.00. mechtech.us carries them. Only posted the info as Sadoun does not carry them.

Are you sure about the above???
I was under the impression that the QualiTV was 4.2.0 only. I know it's an HD capable box, but I didn't think it did 4.2.2, either SD or HD. If it did do 4.2.2, I think I'd be interested in getting one, but it was my understanding that the cheapest 4.2.2 boxes were more than $2000.
I hope I'm wrong. :-)

The Quali-TV box does
4:2:0
4:2:2
4:2:0 HD
4:2:2 HD
Over at satelliteguys, there are a few people that have them (MikeI, who does alot of the sports backhaul postings on yahoo has one mainly for the 4:2:2 feeds)
also the DVB World box (which runs via your computer but doesn't get installed into the computer...it gets hooked up via a USB port) does the above too and is only $125 or so

Thanks. I'm surprised. I'll have to look into that. I thought it was just an HD box, and I do HD via the Roku. I watch SD 4.2.2 on the computer, but haven't had very good luck trying to transcode it to the Roku to watch on a TV, so I'll have to give the QualiTV another look I guess. Although convincing my wife to let me spend the $s is another matter.

Does the Twinhan 1020 do 4:2:2?

Some 4.2.2 requires a pretty fast processor though. The Twinhan itself has no problems with it, but the software processing it sometimes has a hard time keeping up, sort of like doing HD.
But yes, I do 4.2.2 quite often with the Twinhan.
Now, I just realized that you specified the 1020, and not the 1020a, which is what I have. There are some differences between these two versions, which probably wouldn't affect it's performance with 4.2.2, but it might affect it's ability to work with some software. I think TSREADER used to have inputs defined for the 1020, and then both for the 1020 and the 1020a, but I think now it only lists the 1020a, so I'm not sure if the new version works with both versions or not. I've pretty sure that DVBAPPS will, because it hasn't been updated in a LONG time.
But decoding 4.2.2 isn't a function of the card, but a function of the software.

does that mean if the companies of set top boxes could do a software update and give us 4.2.2 capabilties?

I'm not sure, and I hope someone who knows can clarify, but it's my understanding that the STBs use hardware decoding rather than software, ie there is a chip in there that does the decoding, and it only knows how to do 4.2.0. If so, changing the firmware wouldn't change the hardware.

STBs do their video decoding using hardware and that's why 4:2:2 is not common. It is an expensive feature to add, plus it is mostly used commercially.
With dvb cards in the computer video decoding is done using software codecs so they can do 4:2:2 and HD (but your CPU will have to be able to handle the load).
