I would be interested in an answer to that.
I have a Dishnetwork DVR,which I would like to use for recording FTA.

If TIVO box can do like VCR, blindly record, whatever you feed in it, then it should work. If the TIVO box requires TV guide, then no, FTA has no EPG to read from.
But here is just one of many solutions:

As they say, why do you need TIVO, when you can go FREEVO?
For myself, I have a Twinhan USB Starbox, but I did not try to record anything yet, just set up everything last weekend

I have a MythTV setup in my living room... 3 CATV tuners. They all have SVIDEO and composite inputs in addition to the tuners, so I could connect the Fortec Classic NA through one of those inputs, then rig something up to allow the MythTV box to control the satellite box to change channels, etc --- but the real problem is getting program listings for the schedule. I've moved the satellite receiver from the "radio room" (on a 9" color tv) to the living room (32" flat screen)... but haven't tried hooking it up to the MythTV box, as yet.

Not quite sure what is involved here for you guys but my BEC receiver has a VCR timer function in the menus. While I have not played with it I believe what it will do is switch the receiver on and tune to the correct channel at the prescribed time. If I am correct it would not require an EPG and cure at least a portion of your issue.

If I get a chance this weekend I will play with that receiver a bit with that exact function. I do have it connected to my big dish for tuning purposes and just haven't got around to disconnecting it. The receiver was inexpensive to purchase. Under $150.00 but is DiSeqC 1.2 not USALS compliant.
