GlobeCast - right equipment to use?

I am a newbie to FTA. However I am a current DirectTv subscriber looking for European sport and news. Having hassles with them and found Setanta Sports on GlobeCast World TV, so I am about to can them at long last.

Want to sign up with Globecast to get Setanta, but also want to get full benefit from FTA satellite TV and radio. Before I make a purchase of new satellite equipment want to make sure that I get the correct set up.

If my goal is to get Setanta from Globecast, having read these forums are my understandings correct;

- will need a GlobeCast receiver (or FSNAG-5900) that has a Nagravision slot for a Smartcard, receivers that do not have this functionality will not be able decode encrypted signals.
- the Globecast receiver will receive all other FTA signals coming from the Intelsat 5 (T5) satellite.
- if I purchase a GlobeCast system will I be able to add a HH motor to the dish to get a FTA signal off say the Galaxy 13/Horizons1 and the EchoStar 9/Intelsat13 satellites? Both of these satellites carry BBC World and Euronews which as both categorized as FTA which I would like to receive as well.
- off these 2 satellites would I be able to receive all other FTA signals with my GlobeCast receiver?

Am I trying to get too much out of a system dedicated for GlobeCast, or is there versatility built into the system to pickup FTA off multiple satellites.

Any assistance in getting a better understanding of encrypted and FTA signals would be greatly appreciated.

GS

Correct. and GlobeCast must support whatever receiver it is. Check with them when you call. Sadoun sells the GlobeCast receiver here:

Yes. but it will not support Blind Scan, so anything new that pops up, you will need to enter manually. Otherwise it will get everything that is FTA and is on a transponder that is pre-programmed into the reciever.

No. Unfortunatly, you are looking at the Cband side of these sats. For those you will need a 6 foot dish or larger. The ones you are likely looking for are Ku band signals, which are denoted by the 5-digit frequency number (11731H, for example). Suprisingly, the reciever linked above does support DiSEcq, so you could concievably move a motor.

Yes. but you would be limited by the lack of Blind Scan. you could still enter things in yourself, but if you should ever be interested in news/sports feeds, or finding new channels on your own this might be a problem.

Though if you ask anyone here, you can never have too many receivers or dishes. I say get the GlobeCast setup for Setanta, then another box for FTA work :mozilla_laughing:

Kevision,

Thanks for the validating my thinking and pointing out what I need to be aware of. With your reply I can now wizz through and understand what I can receive with a GlobeCast receiver and what is FTA on C-Band.

As a newbie looking for Setanta on GlobeCast I will start off here and expand as I get my feet wet. I can see this becoming an exciting hobby.

Great forum, lots of information and assitance :mozilla_wink:
