Newbie questions regarding Feeds and Pansat dual lnbf

Hi all

I "discovered" FTA satellite several weeks ago and this forum just a couple of weeks ago. We do not have our system up yet but hope to this weekend. We have a Fortec Star DVB-786v3 receiver, FSKU-V universal single lnbf, and an elliptical dish 30" x 40". Will the Pansat dual lnbf offered on Sadoun's website work with my Fortec Star?

Also, what are feeds and does this mean anything to me. The satellite we are interested in is the Intelsat Americas 6 93 degrees W, and included in its list of channels are ABC feed DVB, Fox feed DVB, Insight Feed DVB, etc.

I think this forum is great and the questions and answers exchanged here will probably mean more to me once our system is up. FTA appears to be a lot of fun and a great hobby, with a relatively minimal $ investment (and it's legal ).

Thanks.

Hi Rita:

Welcome to the forum !!

OK; first of all, some of those channels you mention are not available FTA or are available FTA on the C-band; not KU. The dish you have will only receive KU frequencies -- C-band signals require a 6 foot or larger dish (you know, those big, ugly dishes ... ) BUDs !!

From what I can see on IA6 there is only Bloomberg and Tech TV FTA; check this link...> http://www.lyngsat.com/ia6.html

KU signals are identified by a frequency (left column) of 11,000 MHz or higher; the C-band stuff is the lower frequencies.

Any channel yellow in color is usually FTA but not necessarily - if it has a little "F" icon then it is free. "Feeds" by the way are simply "channels" in satellite talk.

The Pansat standard dual output LNB will work with your Fortec receiver - you must set the L.O. (local oscillator) frequency in the receiver LNB setup menu to 10,750 MHz rather than 10,600 MHz for the universal LNB that came with your dish.

I suggest you go after some other satellites rather than IA6 -- browse around www.lyngsat.com and see what is available; there is a section on the site called "Free TV"; lots of stuff to watch.

Hope this helps...

Will we be able to view any of the network feeds shown in the higher frequencies? There are several network feeds listed in the higher frequencies on IA6, which is why we were initially interested in this satellite. Truth be told, we play Fantasy Football (me since 1986) and would love to be able to view some of the games broadcast out of our region (mostly on Fox).

Thanks in advance.

If you are talking about all the feeds shown in grey color then no they will not be available free-to-air even though they indicate "DVB". These are network feeds for local cable providers. I really doubt that the average FTA receiver could pull these in; although to be honest I have never tried. Perhaps some of the other members have a more definitive answer.

I will try it out later with my motorized dish and see whats out there on IA6.
