Dumb but serious question

I have been wracking my brain trying to find Galaxy 10R. I am finding echostar 7 and know Galaxy 10R is 4 degrees away. Is there such a thing as when your turning your dish so many inches or 1/4 inches equals so many degrees so I will know when it too far. Have a digital compass but its not that sensitive. thanks

Re: Dumb but serious question

Besides turning the dish toward West 4 degs, you have to adjust the dish up or down (depending where you live). Here is the trick:
1. Go to think link http://www.sadoun.com/Sat/Installati...Calculator.htm, get the dish elevation for both E7 and G10R.
2. Calculate the different between elevation of these sats, you know if the dish elevation needs to be adjust up or down.
3. Let say: the different is +4 deg (meaning you have to put the dish up 4 degs) and the dish elevation for E7 is 36 (which you get lock know). Then set the dish elevation at 40, move the dish towards the West 4 degs, you should get lock on G10R (assuming skew is set correct and pole is perfectly vertical).

Yes, that part I knew but is there such a thing as for example moving the dish one half inch equals 5 degrees or 10 degrees or even 2 degrees?

I don't know about that. Use your compas to determine the azimuth for E7, then add 4 more degs to it.
These 2 birds are not far apart. IF you can get good lock on E7, you should not have any problem of getting G10R. Make sure skew is correctly and use active transponder when tuning the dish.

THANK YOU

I appreciate it. Slowly figuring this hobby out. Takes about as much time as ham radio did. I did order LNBF from Soudoun. This one is weak. Receiver I got is as good as any it appears for LNBF makes great paper weight.

hmmmmm

says I cannot edit post. What I meant to say was receiver seems as good as any blind search receiver but the LNBF is about as good as a paper weight. Picks up strong stuff but weak stuff is another story.

Re: hmmmmm

Some lnbf has "freq drift off" issue. Have you played arround with the freq?
+/- few mhz to the freq which you can get lock on. Example: Lyngsat shows 12117, try 12115, 12116, 12117, 12118 and 12119. Sometimes it works.
