Question for gurus

I am a total newbie so sorry if my questions sound trivial or stupid. I live in Charleston, sc on the Atlantic coast. I have an elevated house with a 180 degrees view on the ocean. Can I receive signal from Intelsat 903 at 34.5W? In general, how do I know what satellites I can get depending on my lat/long?
What size of dish do you recommend? The bigger, the more satellites I can get?

Thanks

well, first thing to check is to see if the satellite even beams your way.

go to lyngsat.com, find the sat you are interested in and click on the "beam" column.

For instance, this one on 903 doesn't even make it to Canada:
