Lost the Dish Sat

I had a dishpro 500 setup with a Dpp44 switch and all was working okay. I replaced the 500 with the 1000+ dish in the same mounting location. The receiver sees the switch, and all the LNB's, but I'm absolutely stumped in that I can't find the satellites with the 1000+ dish! I find it interesting that the documentation tells me that the 1000+ needs to be pointed 9 degrees further south than the 500 in my SoCal location.

My site has steep terrain to the south and east, but as I indicated, the 500 system was working before I installed the 1000+ dish. Would this make a difference with a 1000+?

Sounds like your aim is off. Try moving the dish around to get your signal back.

I've spent an entire day trying to "re-find" those buggers. Not even a peep of a signal...

Mostly just puzzled how the satellites are at 162 degrees (for my location) for the 500 dish and at 171 degrees for the 1000+. Is that due to the additional satellite's locations?

Also as I said, I have significant higher terrain south and east. Is it possible the new dish somehow needs a lower horizon? That doesn't pass the logic test for me, but I thought I'd ask.

Depending on the Dish500 you had and I will assume the 2 lnbf model. The 1000 model dishes have at least 3 lnbfs so the difference is because you are attempting to align the dish to receive more sats. The sats are on an arc so they are not linear. Through a combination of adjustments you should be able to adjust the dish to receive everything it was designed to receive.

I am no DN expert but as I understand it the basic setup goes by aligning to one sats first and then skewing the dish into position to catch the remaining sats. Someone who does DN should be able to be more specific.

Finally found the satellites. I checked the plumb of the mount and it still looks dead-on for vertical, but my azimuth had to be set about 8 degrees higher than it should for this location. In any case, all four satellite are now talking to my dish... Thanks for the help guys!

You're welcome. I know its frustrating when your aim is off, its easier to blame the equipment rather facing the truth.
