need help please

I am planning on buying one of these FTA satellites advertised with this company. Can anyone tell me what local channels they can receive with one of these. The main reason I am planning to buy one is I want to receive foreign broadcast, I'm strange I enjoy watching foreign commercials. I also want to receive local TV stations around the US and world. If anyone can help and let me know exactly how much of what I am wanting this for can really happen. I know no station is guaranteed to be viewable all the time. Just trying to get an idea. Thank you very much and I will be checking this forum often as I try to learn about this. My location if needed is Greenville, SC. Anyone who wants to email directly can send it to rid0617@yahoo.com. Thank you again

Well; some local U.S. channels are available on certain satellites. Galaxy 10R for example has around 10 channels - mainly Fox and WB affiliates. But like you say they come and go. One good way to find out what locals are available is to visit www.lyngsat.com and click on FREE TV, then choose the country you are interested in -- it will give you a list of the free channels and what satellites they are on.

Well well, hello neighbor. I'm just a few miles away near Spartanburg.
You won't be dissapointed in what you're able to receive with an mpeg/dvb system. New channels pop up every day, and a few leave here and there also.
You'll get an abundance of commercials I'm sure. Foreign and domestic.
Some receivable channels we don't talk much about in the open, but for local nets (not ours though), I'll just say, yes you can.

Are you planning on a small dish system or a big dish (c/ku) system.

thank you for replies to all

now that I know your so close, I'm in Greer, SC. I was planning on buying the FTA system with the 36 inch dish. Not able to put a big one up here.

I'm a ham operator and after 28 years that is getting old and is quickly becomming the new CB radio, so I'm thinking about trying something else I can surf on. Have been watching foreign TV and commercials on high speed internet but those sources are quickly drying up.

Thanks again

Well , we're actually pretty damn close. I live in Duncan .
An FTA w/ 36" would get you a lot of programing. If you decide to go with one of these systems, I have an SG2100 h-h mount (moves up to a 1.2 meter dish) that I ended up with by mistake, that I could make ya a good deal on.

I have a Pansat 330A fta receiver with a slaved Corship 3188c/jaeger vbox positioner/ 10' channel master/Norsat lnb's/ preparing to add a proform 180 horizon to horizon mount to get out there on those atlantic birds.

Once you get started in this hobby it's very addictive.

Thanks bobkat. Like I said, once you get into it, it's addicting. I tend to spend a lot more time on this system than I do watching my 4DTV oufit.

This is the question Ive been looking for the answer to. I have found that most recevers work with c and ku bands, but all the lnb's I have found are eather c or ku. In the amount of channels I can receive which is better, c or ku. And is there a way to get both because the recevers tought that they work for both.
