Very basic newbie question. Help would be appreciated

Hi,

First of all let me admit that I do not know anything about Satellite tv other than seeing the dishes on some roofs

That being said, I had a very basic question and this is it: I live in US and wanted to get some international programs. Lets say that I want to setup two different programming on my satellite tv. For argument sake lets say I am interested in the European channels and I am also interested to see Asian channels or Arabic channels.

Do I need to get two different systems or is there a system whereby I can choose the programming that I want to watch. If I want to watch soccer, then I switch to one of the European channels (provided that there is a soccer match on at that time ) and if I want to see some Samurai movie then I switch to the Japanese channel.

If you know a single system that does the above please let me know. Also if there is any recomendation on the installers available in Northern California, I would greatly appreciate that as well.

Thanks in advance for your help

Frank

You don't a different receiver for each type of channel. Your first step is to find out which channels are available for free on a particular satellite in the sky. Can you tell us your location?

so you would be able to see Telstar 5 and Galaxy 10R, those are the satellites which have some good international channels. Are you looking for any in particular?

Hi DruzeTito and thanks for your replies. Yes I actually would want to watch the European soccers ( as much as they are available in English or Italian and also be able to watch Persian programming and as I mentioned before if available then Japanese programs as well... Any recommendation on the systems?

Thanks again,

Frank

A fortec star system would be fine. Check out http://www.lyngsat.com/america.shtml and click on Telstar 5 or Galaxy 10R and check out the channels that are free (they are white and have an F picture by them) Just don't look at the C band ones, which have 4 digits in their frequencies. These will be the first ones in the first big table, then the next big table are all the Ku band channels you can get. I don't know about European soccer. Thats hard to come by for free these days.

Thanks a lot for the info. So let me get it right, I just need one receiver and one dish and then I can switch between different satellites Telstar 5 or galaxy 10R or for that matter any other ones in the link u sent me? How is that possible? Wouldn't they be in a differnt orbit and locations? Would that mean I need a motorized system so it can track the different satellites?

Thanks in advance and sorry if the questions are kinda stupid

Frank

If you want to switch between satellites the best possible way is using a motorized dish. Very hard to install, but after you install it and everything works the time put into it will pay off. You also can get a dish and lnb for each satellite but I dont think that is too economical.
